Why does my 'manage pictures' button disappear?

Hi,

I suffer inconsistent display of the manage pictures button when I’m logged into the the manager. After many screen refreshes, and after logging in and displaying the page with a different browser, it will eventually show up. I had the page cashed and used the uncached [!MaxiGallery!] call, and tried an uncached page with the [[MaxiGallery]] call instead, but to no effect. I have been playing around with the template, but the form does not appear in the HTML, so is not a HTML/CSS related issue.

Any ideas?

Are you using Firefox 3 beta? It doesn’t display the manage button for some reason..

I can’t reproduce this right now (it is intermittent), but this happens with IE6 and FF2. This does not appear to be a browser-dependent bug.

I should have said, I’m using MaxiGallery 0.5.2, and Modx 0.9.6.1p2.

Funny, was looking for another thing when I saw this post. I have the same problem, just notised it.

Strange thing, if I go to domain.com the manage button is there, then if I go to www.domain.com it is not!

But now suddenly it works as it should again. And I can’t reproduce the error now.

MG 0.6, php 5.2.0, apache 2, mysql 5.0.32, MODx 0.9.6.1p2, no cache.

I have other bigger problems so this is not important for me atm, but thought I should report it.

EDIT:

I’m doing some modifications to MG and if I "disable" the checkPermissions on line 337 and 808 (to allow anonymous upload) the problems disapers.

So with original code I have the problem, if I disable log in check the problem disapers.

Could perhaps be a clue to where the problem is. If it is the same problem as OP have.

Can anyone get this bug to occur right after closing all other browser windows, clearing the site cache in MODx and clearing the browser cache and cookies? If so, it should be reported as a bug.

When testing a site, you often log on alternately as a manager and as a regular user. If, for example, you log on as the manager, then go to another browser window and log on as a regular user, MODx may still see you as a manager. Similar problems can make the manager pictures button come and go at odd times.

That’s not strange at all. If your manager session is set on one domain (domain.com) and you’re trying to view the Manage Pictures button at another domain (www.domain.com), then effectively you are not logged into the manager on that domain and won’t see the button. That can be very confusing if you don’t realize why it’s happening, but it’s easily resolved by consistently using the exact same domain name.

In fact, I bet that if you were able to see the Manage Pictures button on both domain.com and www.domain.com it was because you’d actually logged into the Manager on both domains while you were testing.

AFAIK, the manager session is stored in a session cookie, so it is only accessible from the same browser (I often open up Opera or IE in addition to Firefox in order to view sites without a live manager session). I’ve never seen these cookies not clear properly upon logging out either, no matter how often I go back and forth between logging in and out of the manager.

Now that doesn’t mean that just because I haven’t seen it that it doesn’t happen, but session cookies are pretty standard and reliable things and I’m not sure there’s a problem with this part of the system at all.

I have the same problem, it’s happen if using [[MaxiGallery]] or [[content]] inside the table (<td></td>) and the problem solved if using <div></div>

It won’t happen with separate browsers but it can if you use a separate tab or window in the same browser or (I think) even a separate instance of the same browser. Like you, I always use a different browser if I want to be on as both manager and non-manager.

Sorry, I should have reported back on this at the time. I was working on a new theme at the same time as the gallery, and because other things have gotten in the way (with developing the gallery and theme), I forgot to report back here about this. Anyway, I had created the new theme without including base_url, but added it after creating some pages. So, some page URLs included ’www’, and some did not. This meant I had two sessions, and had some linking problems. These linking problems were resolved when I deleted the cookies. I’m 99% sure the problems with gallery were resolved at the same time. I’m 1% unsure because the project has been shelved for the past couple of months. The odd time I’ve checked back on it, I’ve not had problems with the gallery.

I just encountered this problem today as well. I was using two different domains www.domain.com and domain.com and didn’t realize it. Problem solved.

I would never have sorted that out. Thank you!
