I want to have thumbnail images that popup as do the ones on this page:

    http://modxcms.com/resource-listing.html&tags=imaging

    How is that done?

It is a technique called Lightbox http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/,

but rather than trying to do it on your own, try MaxiGallery http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/MaxiGallery

I was tinkering with MaxiGallery, but it only displays the image in a new page. I was wanting to se the image open ’in front’ of the browser window while the background goes dim.

Cool, I did it with Lightbox very easily. I guess I’m confused on where MaxiGallery gets tied into it.

I think that MaxiGallery has built in lightbox features. The advantages to using MG are that it has a built in management system and does things like auto generate thumbnails and stuff like that.

MaxiGallery currently has built-in Lightbox2 and Slidebox gallery options, and it’s easy to modify to use ThickBox or any other display script that strikes your fancy; read the wiki and/or browse the MG forum for instructions on how to use it.

I’ve been tooling around with MG and the wiki for about 5 hours now and am still lost. First of all, can anyone confirm that the installation steps are correct. Step 3 says "Put the extracted assets folder to the site root and the files will go to correct place". I gotta say that’s not happening. I already have the MODx assets folder in my root directory and if I try to copy the downloaded MG assets folder to there an error pops up saying I’m about to overwrite the existing assets directory. Therefore I had to manually put all those files into my existing assets directory.

Secondly, I’ve been following the tutorial for "Creating your first gallery" and I can not get anything remotely similar to the Lightbox effect to happen. I can get images to just load into the page with "previous | index | next" links. What am I doing wrong? I’m sure this is a fantastic snippet and I really want to use it’s thumbnail and watermark features, but perhaps it’s not the right thing because I DON’T want to create galleries. I have an instructional step-by-step web site with individual photos for each step so perhaps MG is a bit overkill.

Maybe I’m calling the snippet incorrectly. Can someone post the call used for the thumbnail images on the page I linked earlier? Thanks. http://modxcms.com/resource-listing.html&tags=imaging

BTW, I’ve tried using this call
                [[MaxiGallery? &display=`embedded` &embedtype=`lightboxv2` &pics_in_a_row=`3` &max_thumb_size=`110` &max_pic_size=`0` &thumb_use_dropshadow=`1`]]
as found on this site (http://www.netguru.fi/modx/maxigallery-lightbox2.html), but it doesn’t do the same effect.

[!MaxiGallery? &display=`embedded` &embedtype=`lightboxv2`!] if you don’t have MooTools on the page or [!MaxiGallery? &display=`embedded` &embedtype=`slimbox`!] if you do.. The quickedit uses MooTools, so if you have that enabled, use slimbox.

Still doesn’t work. It just opens the image in a new page by itself. Any chance someone can post a step-by-step tutorial in logical order that includes EVERY step for accomplishing this process? This is getting discouraging. sad
