    Sorry if this has already been discussed. I’ve been searching but haven’t found an answer...

    How can I set my site up so that the "Edit Content" buttons provided by the QuickEdit module are still visible, but the QuickEdit Toolbar is hidden?

    Thanks.

      I don’t have a full answer to your question, since I don’t know or never tried to hide the quickedit toolbar. But as far adding quickedit links separate from the toolbar (e.g directly in content areas), you can use two methods :

      Hope it helps !

        Thanks for the reply!

        I read about the other methods for including QuickEdit links. I have to confess that I haven’t tried them yet. However, I assume that, in order for any of these methods to work, the QuickEdit module still has to be active. I also assume that the default behavior for the toolbar is to always be visible if the module is active and I’m logged in. If this is true, that means that, unless there is a way to turn off the toolbar, it will always be visible no matter what method I use to include "edit content" links in my content.

        Is that not correct?

          Well, I suppose it is correct. What I don’t know is if there is a way to hide the toolbar when using the "custom links method", since you call it with javascript maybe there is an instruction to do so...

          The doc just gives a few hint, and I am no developper so I wouldn’t know... Adam would certainly be able to help you with this !

            This is a little bit hackish solution to your problem.

            Look for /assets/modules/quick_edit/output.class.inc.php file on your MODx installation folder.
            Open the file with any text editor that you prefer.

            On line 294-297 will look like this
               // If the top html hasn't already been added to the page, do it now
               if(strpos($output, $html_top) === false) {
                $output = preg_replace('~(<body[^>]*>)~i', '\1'.$html_top, $output);
               }

            Change it to this
               // If the top html hasn't already been added to the page, do it now
               //if(strpos($output, $html_top) === false) {
               // $output = preg_replace('~(<body[^>]*>)~i', '\1'.$html_top, $output);
               //}

            This will avoid putting the toolbar tag on your screen.
            The only problem will be, there might some javascript error on the page, while the js looking for this corresponding div id, and it couldn’t find the id on the page.

            Or you can modify the outputed html tag on line 241-251
            $html_top = <<<EOD
            <!-- Start QuickEdit toolbar -->
            <div id="QE_Toolbar" onmouseup="QE_SetPosition(this);" style="display:none;">
             <div id="QE_Toolbar_Header">
              <div id="QE_Title">{$_lang['QE_title']}</div>
              {$buttons_html}
             </div>
             {$menus_html}
            </div>
            <!-- End QuickEdit toolbar -->
            EOD;

            You can play around with that code.

            After you’re done, just overide the file. Remember to make a backup copy for this file first.
            USE IT WITH YOUR OWN RISK wink

                I also want the "Edit Content" buttons provided by the QuickEdit module to be visible, but hide the QuickEdit Toolbar. No matter what I change in the output.class.inc.php both the toolbar and the buttons disappear. Help huh

                  It’s done with css. Edit assets/modules/quick_edit/styles/output.css, change
                  #QE_Toolbar{
                  position:absolute !important;
                  z-index:10000 !important;
                  width:200px !important;
                  font-size:10px !important;
                  border-style:solid !important;
                  }

                  /* Use position fixed for more modern browsers */
                  body > #QE_Toolbar{
                  position: fixed !important;
                  }
                  to
                  #QE_Toolbar{
                  display: none;
                  position:absolute !important;
                  z-index:10000 !important;
                  width:200px !important;
                  font-size:10px !important;
                  border-style:solid !important;
                  }

                  /* Use position fixed for more modern browsers */
                  body > #QE_Toolbar{
                  display: none;
                  position: fixed !important;
                  }
                  and you’re done.

                    I should have thought of that, nice solution Yoomai grin , though I’d prefer having the ability to not load the quickedit toolbar if I don’t want to tongue

                    It’s not that I want more and more, QuickEdit is a fabulous tool. But using display:none means you have to edit your css again to have the quickedit toolbar displayed again (I don’t like this idea)... unless I look at this and try to set something up with Effect.Appear and Effect.Disappear... hmmm, here is an idea !
