Searching for uploaded files(PDFs with keywords)

Hi

In case this is the wrong area, my apologies. I looked through Ajaxsearch and cant seem to find any mention of what I am looking for.

I would like webusers to be able to upload pdf documents with title,keywords etc...and also be able to search for documents using titles,keywords etc.

Is there a ready solution/snippet I can use or a clever method of using MODx which can help me? Or do I have to build something myself?

You can’t search inside the content of PDFs with AjaxSearch. You can create a file TV type to store a reference to those PDFs, and search on the meta-info about those documents though.

I would like to just search for meta-info about them

There does not appear to be any easy way to do this. From what I can find out, the only way is to use an external program to convert the .pdf to text, then run a spider or some other indexing application that stores its result; your search will actually be searching the spider’s/indexer’s results.

i meant the method where one can upload a file and save its meta details with a TV.Then search would be based on the meta details, according to RThrash. I dont know where to start or what to do with what. Not that good yet

I would like the ability to upload pdf file, manually enter the title and keywords then have a user able to search by keywords sent.

from the looks of it, it seems I will have to create a snippet.

I was just gonna suggest to create a weblink for each PDF (as a reference), and use a separate template with 2-3 TVs (filename, file-keywords, author, filesize...). But apparently AjaxSearch doesn’t search weblinks at all. Even when entering the keywords in the "description" field, AS won’t find it.
