    Hi all,

This is the weirdest thing: I demoed MODx to a friend of mine, and QuickEdit didn’t show in my FireFox 1.0.7 on Kubuntu 5.10 Linux. (Fortunately, the friend was still wildly impressed by MODx! grin)

It has always worked in my FF/Lin until two days ago. (and no, I didn’t turn off JavaScript wink). I tried the MODx demo on opensourcecms.com as a test, and there QE also didn’t show.
QE works fine with my demo site in IE, so it must be my FF browser... huh

Investigating further, when I am logged in in the Manager, and I look at the XHTML code on the front side of the site, the QE scripts are there. When logged off, the QuickEdit scripts disappear. So far, so good. So why doesn’t FF show QE?

Testing my localhost MODx site with Konqueror works fine (QE shows up), in FF QE doesn’t sho, while the JavaScript code is in the page.

Does anyone know what is going on?

    Thanks in advance!

QuickEdit should actually be set to display:none;. The javascript repositions the bar based on the cookie value and then fades it in once it’s in the right place.

If I had to guess I’d say it has something to do with an extension or setting in FF (I myself run FF 1.5 on Ubuntu and have no problems). Go to the command line and type firefox -P and then create a new profile and see if it works with a clean profile. If so the problem is being caused by an extension or setting in your profile.

Upgrading Firefox may also help (as Ryan suggested).

I tried firefox -P and it doesn’t help, so it’s not the profile.

According to Kubuntu Synaptic Firefox is up to date. Unfortunately FF 1.5 is not in the repositories. I will Google on installing FF 1.5 on (K)Ubuntu, because I vaguely remember someone has put a how-to on the Web.

Thanks for the help. I’ll keep you posted.

            Hi,

I just installed FireFox 1.5.0.1 (in fact, I am typing this post in FF 1.5... wink). This was much easier than I expected: just download the file, untar it and run it. Wow, the Mozilla build is much faster than the Kubuntu build!

Anyway, the MODx demo on opensourcecms.com works again with QuickEdit. Also two other sites I build work again flawlesly. So this is good news: QE works again and my browser is faster... grin

However, the test site on localhost still doesn’t work with QE. It is really frustrating. undecided I ran out of ideas of things to try. I’ll first head to bed (11:30 pm here) and see if I get brilliant insights during the night...

            Any ideas are still welcome.

                This is really weird.

I installed a new fresh MODx on my localhost, and QuickEdit appeared, so FF seems to work. Then I tried it on one of my Internet sites: QE didn’t appear. huh

Checking my cookies, is saw a value of 500 for QEtop* and 218 for QEfromleft*. (* something like these words).

Could it be that QuickEdit is displayed by FF, but it is outside the viewport?

Just clear out those cookies and see if it helps.

Why oh why didn’t I think of this myself? embarrassed (banging head against the wall) wink

OK, after extensive testing I found a way to reproduce the behaviour!

                      • login into the Manager of my test site (on localhost)
                      • launch site, or type the URL of the front end of the site in an other tab (the site and QuickEdit are visible now)
                      • click on Settings on QE (the drop down menu shows)
                      • click on Settings on QE again (the drop down menu disappears)
                      • click Reload in the browser (the QE bar jumps down 120 pixels!)
                      • repeat the above three steps (settings - settings - reload) and QE jumps down 120 pixels every time until it jumps down from the screen and becomes invisible.

The default template provided by the MODx install does NOT show this behaviour. It must be the template then (see www.mvklichaamsgerichtetherapie.nl).

The content on this template is held by a <div id="content">. This div has margin-top of... 120px.

IE doesn’t seem to have this behaviour, but I have to investigate it further.
