    Isn’t it life that exactly when you are busiest dealing wth insanity, that weird things start to happen that you don’t possibly have time for?

    Such is my life right now.

    Problem-
    Some of my weblinks aren’t working. For instance if you go to our course resources page (http://vet.osu.edu/504.htm) and scrolly down to VCS 753 (a weblink: http://vet.osu.edu/510.htm leading to: http://vet.osu.edu/assets/courses/vcs753/schedule.html). Sometimes when you click the link, you get the expected result. Other times, you get a blank page at the 510.htm address in the URL. Weblink addresses shouldn’t ever be in the URL so I’m not really sure what’s going on.

    Anyone else had a similar issue?

    MODx 0.9.1
    Mac OS X 10.3
    PHP 4.3
    Apache 1.3
    Frustration 9.2

    [ More... ]

    I’m also noticing that inside the MODx manager, in the page preview, it ALWAYS works. At least, I haven’t seen it fail yet. Just to toss a bigger wrench in the system.

      Hm. Tried it a few times, and two out of five times it didn’t go anywhere, but at least no blank page. But this browser does that from time to time seemingly at random anyway, and sometimes it quits going anywhere until I close it and open it again, so I’m not sure if we’re on the same problem.

        I checked your link from Mac OS X 10.4 in Safari and some of the time it gave me the error:

        "Safari can’t open the page “http://vet.osu.edu/510.htm”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message."

        I was getting the error more than I was making it through to the page. I also noticed that every time the "http://vet.osu.edu/510.htm" address showed up first then quickly switched to "http://vet.osu.edu/assets/courses/vcs753/schedule.html".

        In Firefox I did not get any error displayed, just a blank page some of the time.

        Hopefully the Safari error gives someone a little input to the problem.

          Interesting that Safari at least gives some feedback. Mine says:

          Safari can’t open the page [url] because it could not load any data from this location

          Of course, to me that sounds like a blank page, but it’s interesting that Safari verbalizes it. I’m baffled. It "looks" to me like MODx isn’t sending the redirect. But who knows. Certainly not me.

            Since we’re not getting a lot of this, I’m more inclined to suspect a server problem. I would imagine that if there were a problem with MODx and redirects (that’s all a weblink is) we’d have heard about it by now.

            // check whether it's a reference
            if($this->documentObject['type']=="reference") {
            $this->sendRedirect($this->documentObject['content']);
            }

              I agree. But it’s still a mystery to me. I’ve not made any server alterations at all. I’m going to mirror the site on my development server to test the theory. I am much more comfortable with PHP than with server admin functions so I tend to look where I know first. But after reviewing how the sendRedirect works... there’s just not much to it. I compared versions back to Etomite 0.6 and there’s been little alteration.

                Jared reports that testing a back up to his 0.9.0 version does not exhibit the problems with Weblinks. Could the revision ot the way the makeURL works cause the issue?

                  I had similar problems iwth a couple of sites I made but only when friendly url was on I had the idea that the mod rewrite or modX did not work good somtimes. I had this problem not only with links but also with internalpages that ar in the menu. i thoth that it was just my browser but jared seems to have the same problems...

                    This problem seems to happen with or without FURLs being on. (And to be sure, when I turn of FURLs I also wipe out the .htaccess file so it’s not trying to do its thing.) At this point, based on the simplicity of the $modx->sendRedirect function, I’m having to assume that somehow, the database got corrupted or mangled somehow. I could be wrong but I don’t have a lot of other options. I tried the site on two other servers, one with the same OS and one with a newer OS. Same problem. So I’m rolling back the site to the way it was a week and a half ago - running MODx 0.9.0 and with backed up data. Then I *might* try upgrading again on a mirror dummy site to see if the same thing happens. But not sure I have time for that right now. Thanks all for the willingness to help!

                      I’m having the same problem as in the first post.

                      I have FURL turned on, and clicking the link to whatever doesn’t redirect. it just shows an error page. But when viewing inside the manager at the preview, it shows the desired page.

                      all I really want it ONE link in my menu, the rest are pages :’(

                      http://asmallorange.com is my host, if that helps
