    Hi guys!

I’m working on a project here, and I would like to change the /manager-folder name to /richard. This means that Richard can access the Content Manager through /richard instad of /manager.

I guess some of you are wondering why this makes it easier, but it’s a part of a larger project of mine. I’m buiding an intranet for the school I’m working at, and the logon script has some stuff that requires the procedure I’m asking above.

So does anyone know how to do this?
I’ve tried to rename ALL references to /manager in the scripts, but that resulted in blank pages everywhere, so that obviosly didn’t work tongue

That’s a pretty dicey thing to try just because no one has ever done it as it’s referenced in SO many places. It’d take a lot of time effort and energy to get it to work, and any future upgrades would not be possible as a result without serious problems. In short, today it’s probably not a good idea unfortunately and would not be something we could do a good job on providing support.

I’ve done it; I did the search-replace in all files (it’s in places you might not expect it to be), then spent some time fixing errors until it finally worked. It just took time and patience. I haven’t done it again because it’s too much trouble to do an upgrade.

Ah, well, okay... I’ll find another solution then. Maybe I can tweak the logon script a little bit.

          Thanks anyways, though smiley

Future versions should make this a whole lot easier

This is an issue for me as well. The root directory of my site already has a ’manager’ subdirectory ... it contains the site control panel stuff provided by my host.

Given that the MODx manager subdirectory cannot be renamed, what alternatives would you suggest?

Put the whole MODx in its own subdirectory.

                /modx/assets
                /modx/manager
                etc

Put the whole MODx in its own subdirectory.

                  /modx/assets
                  /modx/manager
                  etc

I’ve got it setup that way, but am somewhat puzzled about how I configure index.php and .htaccess such that the site appears to be running off the root. I tried copying index.php and .htaccess from the modx subdirectory into my site’s root. I then modified the RewriteRule in .htaccess to reference the modx subdirectory. But when I run index.php, I receive the following:

                  Unable to load configuration settings
Please run the MODx install utility

With my rudimentary knowledge of PHP, I examined the code in index.php, and from what I can see, it wants to see the "manager" subdirectory hanging off the directory it’s residing in. What’s the trick?

You’d mostly likely need to tweak the rewrite rule to strip the /modx/ part out. index.php does in fact need to be at the root of the install.

Your install is in the subdirectory off of your web root, for example in a directory "modx". So the index.php file would be in the modx directory as well.

                      /modx/index.php
                      /modx/.htaccess
                      /modx/assets
                      /modx/manager
                      /modx/install (if installing new)

then use this rewrite rule in .htaccess:

                      # If your MODx installation is in a subdirectory, change the following line to match the physical
                      # path to the "root" of the site as follows:
                      RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /modx/index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
