    Hi everyone,

    It took me few days, but I think I tracked the problem with the "connection to host lost" I reported in another thread (Friendly urls and .htaccess)

    I got fooled by the browser cache, and the documents cache, but the problem is gone if I disable the following line:

    include $this->config["base_path"]."assets/cache/sitePublishing.idx.php";

    Thats just the first line in:

     function checkPublishStatus()

    I know it works for everyone, also for me, but for some reason it also fails on the server of my hosting provider.

    The file is just there, it doesn’t matter if I make it world writable or not, and the include indeed points to the correct file...

    HEEEELLLPPP ;-)

    At last I can focus on making a nice site again smiley
    (Though it would be nice if this problem can be solved of course)

    Greetings,

    Remon

        Heh, I wanted modx working, but it took a lot of time to track down the problem :-(

        I’m now trying to teach the helpdesk my problem, that will take even more time haha.
        But at least, they respond the same day....!

        As soon as they got the problem, and hopefully a solution, I’ll let you know!

        Greetz,

          Just before that line that you commented out, put this:

          echo $this->config["base_path"]; exit();

          This will give you a blank page with what it thinks that "base_path" is. It might be illuminating.

            Hi Susan,

            First of all, many thanks to you, you’re a great help for many of us!

            And yes, I’ve thought about that one too.... It just points to the correct file.....

            I’ve been thinking for a long time what else could be the problem, but I really have no idea.
            Seems such a simple thing, no?

            Thanks,

            Remon

              Hi,

              I made a little progress.

              It appears that if more then one include is called from executeParser() the server stops parsing and disconnects.
              These include ’include calls; from funtions called from within executeParser() too.

              I’m not a php guru, but can it be some limitations set on calling the include function?

              EDIT:

              They have php 4.4.0 installed

              Best,

                Hi,

                Unfortunately, my hosting provider said "we don’t support your code" but it must be a problem on their site, cause, if I call whereever an include is called _twice_ the problem is gone....

                This is the weirdest bug I’ve ever seen :-(

                Greetings,

                  Remon,

                  Couple of things....

                  First, who is your hosting provider and what is the URL of their site. Wouldn’t mind browsing their site to see what the skinny is on their service.

                  Second...and along the same lines, would you mind creating a phpinfo file and uploading it to your site and forwarding the URL? All you need to do is create a blank PHP file called phpinfo.php and insert in the following lines:

                  <?php
                  phpinfo();
                  ?>

                  By looking at the environment variables for PHP and Apache, I might be able to shed some light as to why MODx isn’t running right on your hosting provider’s server.

                    Hello Jeff,

                    I think they are correct in that they don’t support modx, however, I think it’s their problem due a misconfigured server, so I’ve to prove that to them....

                    Here’s the link to the phpinfo of that server:

                    http://www.luitvereniging.nl/modx/phpinfo.php

                    Thanks a lot for trying to help me out!

                    Best wishes,

                    Remon

                      Apparently there’s a bug somewhere in Apache and PHP with your hosting provider. I noticed that your hosting provider is using Apache 1.3.26 when the latest is 1.3.33. My guess is that there is a bug in the include module for Apache that is causing some problems with PHP’s include function. That’s just a guess based on what I’ve read online about a similar bug in Apache 2.0. I would recommend that you contact your hosting provider and tell them that there’s a bug in one of the modules and to see about upgrading Apache to the 1.3.33 version. If they don’t or if they refuse...move on! Find another hosting provider! I’ve been around the block enough times with hosting providers to know that if they don’t listen to you when it comes to bugs and security issues then they obviously don’t have a clue! wink

                      I’ve investigate this a little more to see if I can indeed narrow down what module or such is causing the problem. One test you can do is to create a simple "Hello World!" PHP test with two different includes to the same file that has a "Hello World!" echo. If "Hello World!" shows up for each include then includes are working correctly. If it only shows up once then includes are not working right and it’s definitely a problem with your hosting provider.

                      More to come...
