Ditto not showing summary or link, extender is correct

    Hi.

    I can’t get Ditto to show the [+summary+] or [+link+] in my site. I’ve read through the forum and none of the typical problems seem to be at fault. I’ve successfully used Ditto to call summaries on other sites, but this one doens’t seem to be working.

    Here’s the Ditto call:

    [[Ditto? &extenders=`summary` &tpl=`DittoTemplate` &parents=`101` &display=`5` &sortDir=`ASC`]]

    Here’s the DittoTemplate:

    <h2><a href="[~[+id+]~]">[+title+]</a></h2>
<div><p>[+summary+]</p></div>
<p>[+link+]</p>
<div style="text-align:right; margin:-15px 10px 0 0; padding:0; font-family:arial,helvetica; font-size:11px;">[+date+]</div>

        I can’t see anything wrong assuming that the parent doc is correct and that doc is a container.

        You might try using &startID to indicate the container doc.

          Thanks. Gave that a try, but no luck. I’m certain that’s correct anyway, because it is displaying linked titles to the documents in the specified parent, but it’s not shpwing the summary or [+link+]. You can see this for yourself in the example page I linked to in my initial post.

            I think that the [+link+] parameter is intelligent and will only appear if there is more to be read. If the [+summary+] placeholder reveals the entire story it will not show the link.

            I had this problem but only one article had no link, after taking a closer look the only thing that was different was that in this case the article had been entirely revealed. If you require a constant link, than I recommend that you do it the old fashioned way and add it by hand.

            Also have you tried to do the ditto called uncached [!Ditto...!]. I am using the sammary extender the same way you are but my call is uncached.

              A good suggestion, but NONE of the article is being shown by teh [+summary+]. That’s my main problem.

                If you are using the "Summary (introtext)" field in the document, then trying using a template like this:

                <h2><a href="[~[+id+]~]">[+pagetitle+]</a></h2>
<div><p>[+introtext+]</p></div>
<p><a href="[~[+id+]~]">Read More...</a></p>
<div style="text-align:right; margin:-15px 10px 0 0; padding:0; font-family:arial,helvetica; font-size:11px;">[+date+]</div>


                This method would no longer require you to use the deprecated summary placeholder, and thus no longer need the "extenders" parameter added to your call.

                  Yeah, if I can’t get summary to work, I’ll fall back on that. The reason I’d rather use summary is that it’s one less step in the process (for my client) and one less place for things to go wrong (be forgotten, be misused etc).

                    My next question will be are you using the latest release of Ditto (I think it is 2.0.2)?

                    I have a very similar call and it is working fine. Here is my call:
                    [!Ditto? &parents=`8` &display=`all` &extenders=`summary` &sortBy=`createdon` &sortDir=`DESC` &tpl=`dtNews` &truncLen=`350` &truncOffset=`100`!]

                      Yep, I’m using 2.0.2. I just tried your call (adapted to my parent and template) and I’m still getting no summary.

                      Thanks for all the suggestions btw folks. It’s a confusing one.
