Wayfinder very slow - How to speed up?

Unfortunately we have some speed-problems using wayfinder:

This call takes 2.5 seconds for processing:

resulting in 212 menu-items

+++

Reducing it to 2 levels it takes 1.2 seconds:

resulting in 96 menu-items

+++

Reducing it to 1 level it takes 0.2 seconds:

resulting in 17 menu-items

Is there any chance to speed up wayfinder for having better results when we use 3 levels (including 212 menu-items)?

Is there maybe a way to improve the caching of wayfinder? Theoretically it should be very easy for wayfinder to cache the 212 menu-items and mark the active site while outputting the menu, or is this a very complex process which cannot be improved very easy?

Does anybody have an idea how we can make wayfinder faster?

did you already tried out this "code-changing"? Is it recommended to make the proposed changes or will this maybe lead to other problems?

What about implementing these lines in a Wayfinder-Upgrade? I ask because the proposed code-changes were published a couple of months ago and were not implemented yet, maybe because they result in new problems?

No, I didn’t tried it out. Just read about it. Don’t know how about implementing this. Would try on a dev server.

Does anybody else know how to speed up wayfinder? Or if it is recommended to implement the mentioned code?

I’ve never found Wayfinder to be slow, but then again I have never used it for a mega menu. I’ve used it in Evo to list over 150 links up to 4 levels deep and that has always loaded very quickly for me.

Could be something different with Revo however as has been pointed out on gitHub. Have you tried that fix yourself? It’ll only take you a minute.

** EDIT ** gitHub fix code has been removed from wayfinder.class.php. Might have been implemented already, removed code from this post.

Also, did you post your exact snippet calls above or are they simplified for clarity? Wondering if you have anything going on in your row templates that could be slowing things down.

Yes. It is the complete snippet-call. Because of the slow wayfinder-snippet in our real setting I did setup this very small snippet-call on a blank website for testing and got the results above.

Are there maybe any wayfinder-settings which could fasten the snippet?

Use &cacheResults=`1` to get chached menus.
Did you actually tried that code-change? Would be very very nice to know if it works better and withut problems…
