    Hi . . .

My client is having trouble uploading files to the server. She is getting the error below when she tried to upload.

Error, "Failed to upload file. Internal error . . ."

Could it be a permission problem or opening in the wrong folder?

I think it isn’t pointing to the correct assets/images folder because the folder looks empty when I try to upload images. Could that be the trouble and how do I fix?

The file path is set to
    /home/thehear/public_html/

Would this be correct? I see an images folder and there are tons of images in it but when I try to upload a image to Modx it looks like I am not pointed correctly since I do not see anything in the image upload.

    thanks,
    Daniel

This is a permission problem - It’s also user error. A little of both.

If the folder is writeable by modx then the user (which happens to me all the time) is clicking the upload picture button - which is thereby trying to upload the picture in the root directory which is not writeable.

Direct your user to RIGHT CLICK on the folder that has write permission ...usually an assets/images folder - and use the right click menu to select upload a file.

What would the permission be? Currently it is 755

        File base path is
        /home/thehear/public_html/assests/

        thanks

should everything in the assets folder be 777?

I set "777" to all the folders in the assets folder but I am still getting that error It’s not permissions. Not sure what it is.

My client is trying to upload and add images in the admin . . . not via FTP. After reading your answer I think you were talking about uploading files via FTP . . . we are having trouble adding images to pages, uploading via the admin and placing images into the pages in the admin. Hopefully I made all the folders in the assets folder 777 but I am still getting the error I previously mentioned.

            thanks,
            Daniel

              check your apache’s error_log

some hostings even squeeze the permission from the server’s settings.
that means that you can only upload FTP files to the FTP-created folder, or
you can only upload files through manager to the script-created folder.

I am on a VPS server that is running another ModX site with no problem. So it can’t be that really. It looks like when I try to ad a image to a page it is calling up a different folder since I do not see what is in the images folder on my server when I go to ad a image and browse.

                  great!

so that means you can access apache’s error_log, can’t you?

                    Ok i’ll clarify

                    1. I am talking about using modx not FTP

                    2. Make sure the assets folder is also set to 777 so assets/images/ both should be set to writeable

                    3. It still sounds like user error. What is your click by click steps in uploading the image. Try what I suggested - Right click on the images folder and click upload like that.

                    4. if all else fails - To the error log !

What version of MODX are you using?

If it is Evolution, it can be filenames with accents or special characters there are stopping the uploads (and preview of the thumbs). Check it with a FTP client - if any filenames have accents or special characters rename them, and delete all thumbs.
