Hi still finding my way with modx. Have done several sites with it so far, but digesting all it can do is taking time.

Im looking for the best advice/solution for a blog page.
Ive benn trialing one that comes with modx evo (im using 1.0.4 will update to 1.0.5 soon) but
    a) cant figure out how to seperate the form from the post so they are not on the same page adn the form is not accessible to anyone without admin rights, but the posts are visible to all. I love the one on the modx site http://modx.com/about/blog/
and this is what Im looking for.

Is this available as a download anywhere? How different is it from the one on 1.0.4?

Any suggestions welcome, as Im on the point of ditching the blog.

    thanks

          @splittingred
I’ve been trying to setup a blog with Revo 2.0 but I can say It worked only 90%. The main problem is Quip. I asked help on the Forums several times, and I’ve seen that it’s not only me who’s facing this problem. Even a bug was issued, but still no solution...

I know you are extremely busy, but would you kindly take 10min and write a tutorial on how to setup Quip in order to moderate the comments AND (this was the problem for me) receive/send email notifications. I read all the tutorials on Modx, searched all the blogs of people involved in Modx dev but still can’t find a way to make it work. I always get this error:
(ERROR @ /modx208/index.php) [Quip] Moderator Notifications could not be sent for comment: Array

I’m guessing you haven’t written a lot of tutorials. wink

No offense meant, but it takes at least 10 times as long to write a tutorial as most people would guess it does from looking at the finished product.

              None taken!
Indeed, never wrote any tutorial. I didn’t mean a detailed tutorial about entire Quip. I mentioned 2 issues: moderate & emails. I read on Shaun’s blog (splittingred.com) a short tutorial about "reCaptcha Comments". It’s 15 lines text + 8 lines code and it’s right on the subject! Does that take more than 10 min? Not sure...

In if takes more than 10 min. then we leave the problems unsolved?

              All the best!

Shaun would have to answer that (if he has time). wink

Bear in mind that the 15 lines of text was probably rewritten many times to make it clearer and that the code has to be typed, edited, and tested, which often involves setting things up and trying a number of cases to make sure it works as it should (and debugging it when it doesn’t). I just meant to point out that a tutorial that takes 10 minutes to read could easily take an hour or two (or more) to write.

If I knew more about Quip, I’d definitely do it. Hopefully, someone who does will contribute.

thanks for all your replies. Looks like the general concensus is to use revo insteadof evo. mmm
Will give it more thought. Wasnt sure whereth to stick with evo- have been using it for about 5 months or move across to revo.

If you’ve got your head around Evo well enough to adapt things to your needs, you could try PubKit before jumping ship for Revo.

PubKit comes with a complete demo installation as a sub-tree. You can keep your admin pages as unpublished, so that only those with a manager login can see them, while keeping the advantage of front-end editing for the non-techie users.

This is a Blog site I did recently using Evo 1.5 which has proved quite popular

On the Home Page you can see the Summary Blog Articles with an Image & number of comments etc

                      http://www.anotherharddayattheoffice.co.uk/2011.html

Then if you go direct to the Blog this is a nice layout http://www.anotherharddayattheoffice.co.uk/blog.html

And then when clicking on an individual story http://www.anotherharddayattheoffice.co.uk/weekfourblog.html

You get the whole blog and the facility for readers to add comments etc

The site template etc and blog concept is also used on my daily forecast weather blog where I have live weather data uploaded every minute from a weather station I have, plus a streaming cam http://www.anotherharddayattheoffice.co.uk/weathercam.html

Have a look here at the traffic is gets http://www.sitemeter.com/?a=stats&s=sm2weathercam not bad for a local / clique site
