Here’s another Greasemonkey script to make MODx even more convenient. This one does the following:

    1. Fixes the Save/Delete/Cancel bar to the top of the page so it doesn’t scroll out of view when you scroll your document.

    2. Adds "Save" and "Save and Continue" buttons to each section of the editing page so no matter where you are in the page you can easily click a button to save (and close the document) or save (and continue editing). You never have to mouse back up to the top of the page or worry about which of the radio buttons you have checked.

These extra save buttons appear anywhere you might save, such as Snippets and Chunks and TVs.

    About Greasemonkey

Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that lets you add user scripts to a web page that modify the page (its look or content or interaction). Using Greasemonkey to enhance MODx means your site files are 100% untouched. There’s no "hacking" the system. Everything happens on the browser side before the page is rendered. A 10 second install and you’re done, and you can disable the functionality with the click of a button.

    To use the script:

    Install Greasemonkey:

    http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/

    Install the script:

    http://www.sparkplug.com/greasemonkey/modx_powersave.user.js

    That’s it!

This only works with Firefox, of course.

Questions? Problems? Suggestions? Do you like it? Let me know.

Thanks, David. Please do give it a test as it’ll be good to know if it works for others and not just in my own mind, on my own machines. smiley

(For those who haven’t given Greasemonkey a whirl yet, it takes about 10 seconds to install the extension and then about five seconds to install one of these scripts. And if something doesn’t work for you, it takes about five seconds to disable or delete. It’s very fast and very non-invasive.)

Thank you for this script: it will save me a lot of time laugh

Btw, do you think it is possible to turn this script into a plugin, to ease the life also to my users (they will never install FF, grasemonkey, the script undecided)

Good thinking. Since versions .95 and 1.0 are apparently fairly close at hand, we may wait until then to look at turning some of this functionality into plug-ins or more integrated modifications, as I’m assuming there will be changes to the underlying files and architecture of MODx.

That said, what we love about Greasemonkey is that fact that it doesn’t touch the MODx files and is dog simple to install and uninstall. Keep those feature requests and ideas coming!

That’s so kind of you both to say! I’ll pass your nice words onto the rest of our team. For our part, we’ve been very happy with MODx and will be launching a spiffy MODx-based site for a new client on Monday, or thereabouts. MODx has been able to do everything we’ve asked of it, has been easy to work with, and the community here is as friendly, helpful and patient as any I’ve seen. Thanks all!
