Is it possible to create the shopping cart module for MODx using only the snippet tool? Any ideas? huh

It most certainly is possible. Of course, you’d need a catalog for the shopper to fill his shopping cart from, and while that could also be done as a snippet, it would be better as a module.

Perhaps not the answer you’re looking for, but if you only want to use snippets, you could try a solution like RomanCart.com. You could write snippets to generate buy now links and/or thumbnails.

Not the most advanced or sexy solution, but it’d be quick and functional, which is often better. It’s a hosted solution, so it’d be difficult/impossible to get advanced integration with MODx, but worth looking into depending on your needs. FWIW, I’ve done sites with ZenCart, Mambo-PHPShop, StoreSense/ProStores, and RomanCart. Even though it’s a bit annoying at times to not have access to the source, I’ve had zero maintenance issues with it, which I cannot say for the other three.

Happy to heare it laugh, Susan!
As I know, most e-commerce systems consist of catalogue content management, webuser management and cart managment system. In MODx we have a nice catalogue and webuser manager, and all we need is a shop cart snippet.

Thank you for your post smiley I agree that shop-cart snippet shouldn’t be complicated.

Well, yes, but he did say "like". It’s not all that difficult to port ASP to PHP, but I’d rather just find a good PHP cart and modify it.

Susan, can I help you? I have some e-carts scripts so I can share with you.

When I’m e-shopping I hate >:( endless form fields to fill in. So, in my opinion such fields as name, adress, e-mail and contact phone are quite enough to manage the order.

Thanks, but I’m not working on a commerce app right now. I’ve got a ton of them in my Downloads folder, plus a couple of pretty good tutorial articles in my Documents folder, so when I do get around to it I’m pretty well covered. But this looks like a lot of fun:
