Where to put reports/issues? I use this thread first, please move if wrong location.

      1. The new DB-connection selection is a bit confusing. Even I don`t know the difference between (in my case)

      - SET CHARACTER SET
      - SET NAMES

There should be a message what this means and what to use (or a note with "Leave this as long as you are not knowing what you are doing").

      2. For the revolution future: The descriptions of the installable chunks and snippets should be readable in the chosen language (atm I think it’s pulled from the Snippet description itself.)

      3. German version has this Jira Manager Login bug already reported elsewhere. The other german language file solves this.

See complete german installation language file attached.

More tests hopefully later this week.

I still have the same language character problem on these one. It doesn’t show special characters in the right way. And there’s no Norwegian language files to choose. I’ll put it up in the right forum topic to morrow.
I think, thererfor I am! But what I am, and why...?

@Marc : there is a reference thread about SET NAMES vs SET CHARACTER SET it’s well explained.

There is a patch around (you can find it here) but I thought I wouldn’t need to apply it to 0.9.6.3. It doesn’t seem very straightforward to patch this, or am I wrong ?

@sylviaticus, I suspect your problem is identical to mine, maybe check this out.
          1) check DB collation and DB charset in phpMyAdmin
          2) re-run the installer and carefully choose what fits
          3) check config.inc.php if it doesn’t fix it

Thanks for your help. I will try your solution. But I have to admit; the first thing that got into my mind was: I wasn’t like this before. I saw a note in another thread saying the problem with characters outside the English language should be solved, hopefully it will be in the future. smiley

It should be solved. If it’s not we need to know exactly what’s wrong. I’m willing to bet it’s either a bug in the upgrade process, or something created and masked by previous bugs that are now solved.

I agree that this page of the installer could use a little more explanation and design (perhaps there should be some on-hover tooltips with more info to keep the main page uncluttered). I would also make the two links that you need to click (to test db connectivity) buttons or other obviously required steps (or even better, use JavaScript to hide the later fields until those are clicked and the result is success). This is a relatively minor issue, but since the installer is many people’s first experience with MODx the less confusion, the better.

I just installed the rc release this morning and everything has gone swimmingly so far. I really like the improved admin configuration forms. That’s the next thing that new folks encounter after installation, and the changes made there make it much more intuitive.

So far everything else seems the same (which is a good thing, since I haven’t generally had many issues with the 0.9.6.x series), although under the hood I know a lot of work has been done. Does the new version no longer insert that annoying MODX_MEDIA_PATH code into the head? I was about to add my plugin for removing that, but I guess I’ll see if it shows up before I do.

It was my line of thinking exactly, but luckily Jason enlightened me about this charset stuff, check out this : http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,29760.msg180851.html#msg180851

Things really make more sense to me now !
Did you check DB collation charset was consistent with DB connection charset ?

Install was easy and hassle-free. Seen no strange things after playing around for a while, apart from the german lang. file bug, when trying to switch from default engl. to german.

I’m sorry, I have given you wrong information. There is no problems with Norwegian characters in 0.963 rc-1 after install, that is in the manager.

It’s only on the install pages itself. I will try the install process once more and try to identify where the problems appear.

                      Sorry about making a misunderstanding.
