Opengeek, Jason - Help.... Manager locking up and losing connections to the DB

I wonder if you can shed some light on this.

I have 15 odd sites running from 0.9.6.1 to .62 running on Mediatemple’s GS service.

I have never had any issues at all until last week.

While creating a new site/fresh install I started to get manager lock ups. It would hang for 2/3 mins and then give the error below:

error replacing into active users! SQL: REPLACE INTO `db7065_gdale`.`modx_active_users` (internalKey, username, lasthit, action, id, ip) VALUES (1, ’admin’, ’1228255657’, ’3’, ’8’, ’91.111.82.99’) Lost connection to MySQL server during query

I wait a while and a couple of minutes later all is well for 10-15 mins. And then boom, it locks up again. Also if I open a ’tab’ and try to bring up the ’front end’ of the site I am in the manager, I get no response at all either.

My thinking was that it was an issue with MT and the DB connection/s. I reported the issue and got pointed to threads back from 2006 where you fixed a problem similar to this.

I thought it might be this install - but ALL 15’ish other sites I can replicate the same issue without fail. It also seems to occur more when I bring up the image browser MCPUK via Tiny.

I have checked PHP Admin and there are a few aborted connections 0.28%. Tables repaired, no other issues to report.

MT support keep pushing me back to the creators of Modx - but as I say, I have never had any problems until last week and now this is becoming unusable for me and my clients.

Do you have any idea what this might be? Or what MT might of changed internally that could cause such a problem?

Right,

This is definately something to do with MPUK - it locks up the whole manager for some reason on every time. Navigating around documents and editing text is fine. When I hit the image icon in Tiny, opens the pop up and click to browse, this is when it locks up and drops the connections. Some images in the resource browser open and then bang, lock up time.

I can replicate this over and over. 9/10 times it locks up. What the hell has happened/changed for this to occur? This is way over my head as to why suddenly after all these years this fails across so many sites.

Anyone here on Mediatemple’s GS? Running Modx - can anyone PLEASE check to see if they can replicate this? I have a SQL container running on it as well.

We had horrible times when testing on the Media Temple GS servers; granted it was very early on. MySQL performed abysmally too frequently for comfort to say the least. Other users in the forum this week (maybe last) likewise reported performance issues on Cluster #2 and again I think it was with MySQL.

It is so weird - no problem at all with 15 odd sites running on the GS at all. And then since last week all this occurs.

Causing me a lot of grief and money - MT say it is a Modx issue. I still think ’something’ has changed on the Grid to affect this on such a large system while scale that I am seeing.

It definitely only occurs when using the Tiny/Resource browser and then only 8-9 times out of 10.

Help or I might cry lol!

could it be possible that those sites have been hacked and are now somehow corrupted? the hacker-attacks to the reflect snippet started last week...

Thanks for the post - but no, register globals are off and always have been as default on the MT Gridservers.

This still is continuing to drive me mad...

Something to do with the inbuilt resource browser and MT.....

Q: are all 15 sites running the same modx version? I think that TinyMCE was updated in a recent release, not sure if MCPUK could be affected as well.
