XStandard Lite getting PRO features for OpenSource CMS partners

Hi All,

Surely you have heard about the commercial online editor XStandard, yes? From the ones I’ve tried sofar I consider it the best but for an opensource CMS integration point of view it used to suck big time. There was no way to tap into the editor API to for instance integrate the image editor.

Well, apparently this is about to change. I just received notice of their newest update and they have plans to make XStandard Lite available with some PRO features. Here’s what they said:

*XStandard Lite For Partner Open Source CMS*
We are making XStandard Lite with some Pro features available to established vendors of open source CMS who wish to offer XStandard as an optional (freeware) editor in their applications. This program is a marketing agreement to promote XHTML within the developer community. Participating open source CMS vendors will offer a link on their home page to a new, educational site XHTML.COM (scheduled to launch in July 2006). The site will promote XHTML, accessibility and Web standards. Details of the program can be found at http://www.xstandard.com/xstandard-lite-for-partner-cms/ If interested, core CMS dev team members or authorized representatives should contact us at [email protected] Open source CMS users who would like their CMS vendor to participate in this program should contact the CMS vendor instead.

Don’t know about you all, but I’m quite excited about that. Any chance ModX will have a look into this? I’d be glad to help.

There’s actually a challenge with implementing it as it requires using Object tags, and that means we’d have to walk the DOM to insert them with the appropriate parameters at runtime. It’s not a plug and play process.

Wow! This is good news! Xstandard has been my favourite RTE with etomite. Xstandard with modX would be a dream team! I hope the guys at xstandard.com will release their OS X version soon... Imagine the triple X: modX with Xstandard on OS X

I think our build might work with OS X. This is our next project I think after the next release.

FYI: Now XStandard runs with IE 7, Opera 9 / Win and (tataaa!!) OS X. Okay, they’ve published beta 1 for OS X. But I use it since build Alpha 1 on my Mac to maintain older etomite projects. It’s really stable.

I was just wondering how this was going?

Would be great to finally see a standards compliant RTE integrated in a decent CMS!

Hm, MODx?! Wow! Smells like 1.0?

If you look at Ryan’s comments further up the thread, you’ll see that a preliminary attempt to integrate this was made back in April. It is probably from that time that XStandard added MODx to their "CMS vendors" list.
