Sub submenus in Wayfinder, how do I do it? Please help!!

Hi,

First off I have been looking through this forum for hours but can’t find an answer to what must be really really simple. How do I display sub submenus in wayfinder, every example I look at does this and everythign seems to indicate that wayfinder does this. In fact when I do a source of my page it shows the item I want to display as a link:

My question is how do I show /English/Articles as a menu item leading off of wibble which itself is a part of the articles submenu. I am guessing I am doing somethign wrong with css but as I don’t have the faintest idea how css works I would appreciate some help.

You might want to set level to 2. Level decides how ’deep’ the wayfinder goes. By default it will make a UL with LI items, with a nested list.

Hi thanks for replying and I fully realise that this must be like 2+2 to you guys but I just can’t get it to work. I have now tried setting it to level=’2’ but no change, so I have taken this away again. You can check this out by going to http://www.high-rollercasinos.com/English.
Now if you look at the source for this page then you can see that the url for the subpage is present but is just not being shown in the menu. It is all very very annoying!!

My guess is that this has something to do with my css settings but I’m not sure what to check, please help

I’m not even clear on which css file is being used by Wayfinder, if someone could tell me that it might be a help.

The Ajax Menu that ships with the MODx Host template is only a two level drop down I believe.
So I don’t think you can get it to work using the existing JavaScript file.
Could be wrong though!

I’m not sure either, but I think bunk58 is probably right. Take a look at the menu of the site in my sig. It looks a lot like what I think you want and it does go to 3 levels. It’s just a straight Wayfinder cssplay dropdown menu with no Ajax (although I think you could use jquery to add effects if you wanted to).

Pay close attention to your code. You said you write it as level=’2’, but the MODx code is written with backticks, not quotes, so the correct code is level=`2` (again, not level=’2’).

As a side note... I would really suggest figuring out a new link scheme. Having that many drop down options is pretty unusable. Anyone who hasn’t been to the site is going to have to sit there for quite some time find the option they want, then they will realize that option has even more options underneath it.

I’m always open to suggestions, are you saying the current menu is bad or my proposed 3 level menu would be bad. I can’t really think of how else I can do my current menu as I do like having the drop down selections but if they are bad then I might need to rethink it.

On another note another option for me would be to limit the number of items in the submenu, can someone please tell me how to do this, I tired using the limit argument put that just seems to limit the top level and actually completely blocks the sub level from dropping down.

I get a 404 page from your link so I can’t see the problem for myself, but, if the code you posted is correct

then the style="display:none" declaration won’t help!

To chip in with a comment about the usability issue. If a drop menu extends beyond the bottom of the screen, as the articles menu does, that seems pretty unusable to me. What happens when you add more articles, does the menu just go on forever? I would think a single link to the articles listing page would do.

I just found a nice dropdown jquery script called droppy.

You can just use their example css to get started.
