When can we expect a new build to be released?
    Keep up the great work....

The next build will be beta-1. It will be released sometime in either March or early April. (Assuming no major bugs are found.)

Do you know approximatively how many beta and RC you plan to have?

Is there any chance that ModX Revolution be launched this summer?

It depends on a few factors: One, how many bugs we encounter. Two, how easy those bugs are. Three, how involved the community decides to get. If we don’t get a lot of developers contributing, people documenting and testers testing, then the process will be slower.

          There’s always a chance. wink

We hope to have at least a near-close-to-final RC finished by mid-to-late summer, and maybe a GA by Autumn. We’ll see.

            Great news!

I plan to start digging into xPDO when the RC1 will be out.

Which lead me to another question, when do plan to release the new Modx website?

Speaking of documentation, is there a way we can help with that? A lot of the wiki pages written up in early alphas aren’t applicable to the latest revision, and I know you guys are busy working on the core (with daily commits to SVN). I’d love to help bring some of those articles up to date and maybe get some other developers working on upgrading components. Anything to help get MODx released sooner! laugh

                  Hello,

How big are the changes likely to be when the Beta-1 release comes out? I heard there will be some major changes but I can’t find any documentation saying so. I’ve been tasked with updating a very old text-based website, and MODx seems perfect for the job, but I’m worried that if I go ahead and create a website in the most recent stable release, I’ll need to do just as much upgrade transition work when the next version is released. The website has to be finished by the start of June, but I can only spend about three days a fortnight on it, so I need to start planning ASAP.

Would I be foolish to start working on the site with the current release?

Also, I’m a technical author, so although I’m new to MODx, if you want someone with a background in both IT and English to check over any documentation, I’d be happy to. Just get in touch.

Between alpha-6 and beta, quite a bit. Between SVN and beta - not many, if any, major changes. Most of the heavy changing has already been done in SVN.

Most of the rest of the changes will be bugfixes and the like.

I don’t think you’ll have a problem - for one, no changes will be made to the tagging system, or to the way the parser handles your documents. The only thing that might be altered a slight bit is if you plan on creating some custom manager pages for it - that we’re still ironing out the best way to go about it.

Not to mention that Revolution’s upgrade script is version-specific; meaning that upgrades are applied based on the version that is loaded. So, if you install SVN and later install beta-1, you’ll only run the beta-1 upgrades, and those will fix any discrepancies.

Would I be foolish to start working on the site with the current release?
I wouldn’t think so. We’ve already got the new MODx site working with the SVN version of Revo, and it’s handling nicely.

We’d really like to get those at least somewhat familiar with MODx to contribute to the Revolution documentation, since it will be official documentation. However, as you get more familiar, we’d definitely appreciate any help. Sometimes even good forum posts make it into documentation. smiley

That’s great to know - thanks. Tech author-wise, yeah of course I’ll need to learn more about MODx before I can help out, but I can proof stuff from others if they’re not tech authors and get rid of ambiguity/make things clearer etc. in the mean time, if there’s a need for that (otherwise, I’ll just get learning) :O)
