I was working on a site - Revolution based site - and then after doing the install - no problems everything went great with no issues at all. Then I started working to update a page and the next thing I know my site crashes. Turns out my VPS crashed period - so when I went to look at my logs turns out I ran out of memory so it shut down. Now my VPS specs is a 512 MB RAM on the server and this was just running off ONE site. I just found this very very unusual and odd. So was hoping someone can enlighten me what I might have done or is Revolution more memory intensive than Evolution?

Thoughts and inputs would be appreciated. Kind of thinking of bumping my memory for my server from 512 to either 768 or 1 gig. But I am only going to be hosting about 6-10 sites on that VPS. So hate to OVER DO on what I am really not going to use.

Insight would be appreciated! Thank you very much!

Revo does use more memory than Evo, but it needs more for the install than it does to run. I don’t know the current numbers, but I’m at 128M and have never run out of memory. Of course it depends on what you’re doing. Do you have a lot of PHX-style modifiers with complex conditionals, or maybe a snippet with a flawed loop or infinite recursion?

I imagine TinyMCE sucks a lot of memory, too.

TinyMCE is a memory eater, but on the client side.
        ExtJS too.

The memory setting on the php.ini was set at 32 so I tried to up it to 128 and see if that helps.

You may want to look into how your server is configured. It took a good 60 Evolution sites on my 512 VPS before I started running into memory issues under load. The server is running cPanel with each site in it’s own account. I ended up turning off a few excess processes that likely free enough room for another 20 sites.

I suspect your server may have some configuration issues if one Revo installs crashing it. I’ve done installs on a shared box with php.ini set with 32mb (advanced install), and on the 512 VPS (granted I moved 30 of the sites to a second 768 VPS).

Could you tell us more about the VPS configuration and/or host?

These entries indicate that your system processes are getting killed off because they are trying to use more memory than your plan allows. Reducing your memory footprint or adding more memory to your account is recommended to prevent this from happening. These high memory environments also contribute to instability both on your VPS and on our hardware.

Interesting, did you have them change your config from the default any and what install are you using? If not I may have some suggestions for you.

None at all - that is why I was stumped. It only crashed when I went through the manager. But once I changed the setting from 32 to 128 I have not had one crash yet. So that is a good thing. As of this time only two sites are active on that server.

Increasing the memory limit should help, if I recall I run ours at 128 in addition to some other tweaks. Switching to dovecot for example.

Okay I am really really stumped.. I can install modx with no issues - but whenever I go into the manager and then lets say add a template then the server crashes on me. I just dont get it. It has NEVER done this before. So Im assuming that I need something bigger than the 512 MB site. I dont even run emails on this server since I use google apps. Any ideas what else I should look at?
