Forum contest to stimulate the community

It is nearing the end of the year and it might be fun to have some forum contest of some sort. The prize can be as simple as a ’badge’ in the winners forum profile or something simple like that.

Any ideas for contests:

1) most significant new snippet - select from the snippets that are not part of the core (sorry Ditto and Wayfinder). There have been several new snippets that are simply fantastic that deserve some appreciation.

2) best modx site - select a site from the "You and Your Sites" forum posted in 2008

3) most informative forum post (?); 4) best wiki article; 5) best signature ..

Anyway you get the idea. We could do one at a time and have a nomination period and a voting period. Anyone think that this would be interesting or will it be more effort than fun?

I like the idea, but will a badge be enough to get outsiders into the contest? Or will it only get attention from the forum addicts?

Maybe you should choose another prize which is worth more, but doesn’t cost anything. Like seeing your winning snippet/site as "featured" on the site? And add a badge to the snippet/plugin/whatever on the info on the site. That way people can better see what are valuable things on the site.

And you could repeat these contests every month/quarter/year if it does stimulate the community I think it would be a great way to get a more active community.

Yes that is a good idea. Getting featured is a great business boost and is actually ’worth’ quite a bit now that modx is more popular every day.

If we want to do this this year we need to get a contest started soon. More important than the award would be to define the contest parameters. I am a bit tied up for the rest of Nov to be able to contribute much. There have been some great ad-ons recently that deserve some praise, maybe the first contest could be allong the lines of "Most Inovative Add-on Contribution".

To be fair the big workhorse add-ons (Ditto, Wayfinder, eForm, MaxiGallery) would be excluded (we already know these are great) and AjaxSearch would be a toss up since it has been greatly enhanced recently (but it is still a modx standard, maybe it would fall under a different category together with WebLoginPE and being enhancements to exisiting snippets).

Add-ons that i would nominate: ManagerManager, conent-history, Quill, TreasureChest (since it is no longer commercial it should be included) and I am sure there are others that I just can’t recall at the moment.

Love the idea. How about 3 categories ... winners featured in a blog post and voted on in a poll on the forums ... or maybe using Easy Poll on the site.

This looks good to me, Now we need to make an announcement to start gathering nominations. Maybe a post for each category and users can post their nominations.

Here are some guideline ideas: Best modx site needs to be chosen from within the site showcase forum. You can not nominate yourself (duh).
