AJAX Drag and Drop Tree

I have a working AJAX tree (currently as a module) with full drag and drop moving and sorting of documents. I’ve got a few more bugs to iron out before it is ready to be released. Mainly, document type icons don’t work (xml, js, etc.), some CSS glitches, and I have a few more features I want to add back in (context menu).

Not to tease but I will post more details as soon as I get the chance. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Yes, but I rewrote a good portion of the js to make it preserve ids.

Mark, keep in mind that there is a distinct possibility that we’ll be using the Dojo Toolkit to revamp the manager for the 1.0 release. One of the widgets included in the Dojo Toolkit is a tree menu that supports dragging and dropping. What you’re doing is not a total loss though. If you can get this finished soon we can implement it into the 0.9.5 release and get rid of some more of the bogus javascript code in the manager...not to mention a few more frames.

The Dojo tree does not support reordering.... this one does. That is why I chose not to base my code off of Dojo.

So Mark, care to share what you’ve got to date as Jeff and I are streamlining the current manager?

Yes it does. Unfortunately the dojo docs suck, but if you look at the source code for their demos as well as the source code for their nightly tests, you’ll get a pretty good idea of what all the widgets are capable of.

Could you direct me to this nightly test?

It’s not a big deal right now. I’m quite a ways off from being able to sit down and play with Dojo right now. I’m holding off till we get the manager cleaned up so your new tree menu will be an immense help in that process. Plus, as noted, Dojo does support reordering...but I really need to wrap my head around the code first. Reordering should be pretty simple. Since the results are just lists it should be pretty easy to send an Ajax request back to the server with a parameter that tells it how to order everything and send back the results. So, yeah, it supports it...it just takes some planning. Who knows...we might not even use the Dojo tree menu...or even Dojo for that matter. But if we do, that would be great since it means we would be able to drive all the functionality of the manager under just one unified javascript library which in turn means faster load times and better performance.
