Fubared Manager in IE7

Revo has been working ok (more or less) in IE7, but the current build won’t work at all for me because the top menu items appear behind the left panel and scrunched above the right panel.

Great.

Revolution 2.0-beta-1’s manager will not be IE-compatible, I’m afraid. We just cannot wait that long.

A lot of beta will be dealing with IE issues, however.

I’ve actually been using IE lately with pretty good success so I thought we were close on IE compatibility. What I’m seeing now is new and looks like it should have a simple fix (of course you’d know much better than I would).

I think those problems are related to some recent style changes. We’ll try and get it fixed for beta-1, but if you can, try getting a revision of these css files from before changeset 4926 and see if that solves the problem. You can see the diffs inline there.

The recent changes to the layout have caused the ie7 issues. IE7s box model is still wrong and so there are issues that will need to be resolved. I think these will be resolved before beta1. I think some ie7 css will be needed but i can live with that

BobRay, if you can post specific issues, I hope to have this resolved by Monday.

The only thing I see is in the rendering of the top menu dropdowns.  The ones on the left drop down behind the left panel so you can’t click on them. The ones on the right drop down scrunched up between the top menu and the right panel.  It could be that this is only on the Manager home page since I can’t go anywhere else.

[UPDATE] My mistake, all drop-down menu items drop down behind the left and right panels so it could just be a Z-index problem. I’ve confirmed that it does happen on all pages. Another thing I noticed in IE7 is that at certain window sizes, the right panel drops down below the left panel and the top right is blank (good old IE7).  Also, there appears to be no min-width in the Manager in FF3 or IE7 -- it gets pretty funky looking at small screen sizes.

The drop-downs have always been a little iffy in IE.  For a while, they would drop down normally, but would disappear when the cursor moved below the top of the left or right panel. This only happened on the home page. If you clicked on one of the top two choices in any drop-down, you could go to another Manager page where the menus worked fine.  That effect went away a while ago and everything worked great, then it came back (sorry, don’t know the build numbers). You could still use IE7 with that but in the latest build, it’s unusable.

BTW, here’s some info on a Z-index bug in IE that looks very similar to what we’re seeing: http://mahzeh.org/?p=23.

I think we will take a good hard look at the manager UI in all browsers starting this week and before we go beta. If you have screen caps that would be even more helpful. Also OS and resolution will be helpful info.

For live screencaps/screencasts you can use the free tool Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/download/) It is a very simple way to do captures of both selected areas and to do quick live tutorials for clients too.

In any event I looked at the site you mentioned about the z-index and I’ve come accross it. The trick is assigning z-index to each element.
