After nearly a month of working on Ditto 1.1’s corresponding TRAC site, I am proud to preview it to the dev team. I plan on writing a few more tutorials and attempting theming it before the 1.1 release.

              I really like that.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

I am considering using this CVS Dude service for a few projects, but I’m a bit confused by the user account system - it looks like I’d need a new account for each project (and then a new email address for each bugzilla that I wish to use). So if I want my own space, I need to create a new PaulGregory2 account rather than use the PaulGregory that is allocated to MODx project (and use different mirrors for each one so that I don’t have to log in and out all the time). Am I right, or am I missing something?

No, the user system is indeed the major limitation with CVSDude. We are working diligently to have a dedicated server with our own SVN/Trac installation. More on this as soon as we are able to get it set-up, but it will most likely be another month or so until we can nail that down. At that point, we will have a lot more options on how to manage users/committers/Trac contributors alongside our user accounts for MODx/SMF/Flyspray.

Ah, sounds good. Excellent, in fact.

I think The MODx Userbase are going to love this Ditto Trac site, and will be clamoring for this to be extended to more parts of MODx.

If you will be able to offer something like the Ditto Trac site for every major snippet/module with a dedicated server (and lots of hard work), then it may be worthwhile indicating to them that donations would help achieve that objective. It’s the sort of thing that would spur people to put their hand in their PayPal pocket.

And indeed, a MODx/SVN/Trac/SMF/Flyspray integration solution would be useful for lots of projects...

I actually would like to start thinking seriously about 1) removing all non-core development/code from the MODx SVN/Trac repository, 2) formalizing any major add-on projects as sub-projects in a way similar to how the Eclipse Foundation deals with this (e.g. proposal, acceptance, etc.), as well as how Mark has proceeded with Ditto (e.g. separate Trac/SVN module), and 3) consider selling early access to development SVN branches (i.e. get SVN access to the 1.0 branch in beta), private SVN branches (for contributors), and/or sub-project SVN modules with their own Trac systems at reasonable prices to help offset the cost of hosting/maintaining it. I think this approach as a long-term goal, i.e. in conjunction with the rollout of 1.0, will attract additional high-quality contributors to both the core, and the add-on projects.

I’m just not sure doing that on a purely donation basis is worth it; I’d prefer to see some kind of small membership fee help cover the costs.
