Repository Migration Updates

I will be updating this post over time. Last updated: 07Aug06 Version 15.

Further my posts in the Repository is Ready for Testing thread, I think its best to keep that thread going as the test / bug reports thread.

This thread is about the migration of resources to the Repo. My main focus has been to ensure that the bulk of things listed in the existing Repository thread (ie the Resources button one) were present in the new Repo system, so that the link could be changed.

This is still my focus, and the sole focus of this thread. I will be starting a separate thread about resources that are neither in the Repository thread nor the Repository system to keep things clean.

The rest is divided by author, grouped by how aware they are of the Repo : used it and added everything, used it a bit, said they’ll use it, have probably heard of it, haven’t been on since it was announced.

As we know, it is best for the author to add their own resources as that way they can maintain things. However, some contributions are by authors who have gone AWOL or do not appear to have the time to add their resources. I would like feedback on which ones are the priority.

EDIT 2: We’ve now cleared out all the stuff by people who had shown no signs of being aware of the Repo. Everyone left on this list has either replied to me or has put something else up.

I have coded a little module for the repository that will allow for the creator’s SMF ID to be switched over for uploaded resources.

For example, for those people who haven’t responded to your messages or don’t have time - we could upload them and completely reassign them to the original author.

Let me know if that is required,

That’s great news. I’ve PMed MadeMyDay to offer assistance. I’m happy to add some of the others using that facility too (ie PM author saying I’m going to do it, add it, then ask you to change author). But I don’t know what the priority cases are.

EDIT: I’m no longer maintaining the second list as there’s hardly any left now anyway.

Also:

Does the fact that the following non-Repo add-ons are slated for inclusion in 0.9.5 mean that they are more important to add into the Repo?
I’m making a distinction between "core code" (ie plugins that are integrated fully) and "core distribution" (ie snippets that are included).

In Core Code:
Plugin: SlimStat

In Core Distribution:
Snippet: Replix (seemingly under new name of Jot)
Snippet: eForm

I think all core snippets should be in for when there are updates between releases.

And don’t forget the actual software itself still isn’t in! (MODx 0.9.2.1 and previous versions)

For SlimStat, I think we should wait for real-integrated version ?

I think that core releases must be added as soon as possible, even if the versions were not updated since the last version of Modx : I had some troubles with installation and I coudn’t find the resources broken (the problem was PHP code truncated for some resources).
It seems to me that is important.
Moreover, an accident so quickly arrived, an error of handling and one is obliged to reinstall Modx to recover the resource corrupted...
It is my opinion.

For information, I think that I could add some resource to the repository the next week.

I too think that ALL resources should be in the repository, I don’t understand this questioning that something should be left out. What does it hurt to add everything there, no matter what it is? And if you’re going to answer that it might clutter the repository in a way that "important" stuff would be harder to find or something, then we have a problem with the repository itself.. at some point in the future, there will be alot of stuff there anyways (I hope )..

Why the current SlimStats would be left out for example? I think that not all users are going to update their modx installation to the newest version and some of them may still want to replace the native logging with the slimstats plugin..

I agree with Doze everthing should be there, for instance I (happily) use Susan’s Highlight Search Terms... also it might be picked up by another coder...
