Pending 0.9.2 Test Build

The first test build for 0.9.2 will be released soon. I am thinking of this release more as addressing bugs and international issues, with a smattering of features here and there as needed.

It will also address proper handling of 404s, but I think we’ll need to add a bit of additional logic to prevent the 404 page from being set to the site start page or it will register a false 404 in the apache logs. (this is just a not to myself for Victor, who implemented the fix).

I’d really like to get multi-language sites handled more cleanly in the manager as well. Please see this thread and comment as appropriate.

Regarding the manager, I’d really like to standardize on a new layout based on Banzai’s work. I think this will really break the last of the Eto-association and let us get rid of that baggage once and for all. I’d in fact like to get rid of alternate layouts and just use the one topbar layout in fact to prepare for the future more streamlined manager. Alternate themes are fine, though and think we should in fact keep the legacy theme available, but we should probably consolidate all the CSS into one file.

Other than that, the things in bold on the top post of this thread are the stuff I’d like to see knocked off next. Any volunteers?

I’ll see if I can work on a few QuickEdit fixes/improvements. Nothing too major but I have a few things I’d like to get into this release.

I have been desperately too busy (not enough time to give to the community these past 3 weeks !), but I at least intend to take advantage of new releases to set up some marketing buzz before hand... do some teasing on forums about releases could be beneficial The manager overhaul, based on banzai’s work could contribute having a separate well distinct identity and I look forward to that... if it can be done for 0.9.2, that would be awesome

I’ve started to post regularly on opensourcecms.com, sitepoint, stylegala... these could be places where I could start some buzz. Trying to set up some viral marketing with blogs is also something very much on my mind...

That was for marketing. On the internationalization issue, I think having the mysql errno thing finally done would be just great And of course, can count on me to give a hand testing the future release...

I’m pulling triple duty to try and get NewsListing class edition done in time but we may have to go with 6.3.3 (mostly because it has been deemed stable...). As for NewsFeed, if the class isn’t finished, I wrote a wrapper to make NewsFeed access NewsListings features for backwards compatibility.

And I’ll handle the heme right when I get home Ryan... (can’t say any more...)

You know what : once the class edition is done and NewsFeed up and running, I am thinking it could be very cool to have some marketing buzz going about MODx being able to build some pretty nice blogs with it Target some power bloggers and demonstrate how MODx can be a powerful tool even compared to dedicated solutions like WP or MT... (Thinking : how hard would be a Trackback snippet ?)

I’d like to help out in getting the new manager theme finished. However, I’d really like to get my hands on the graphic files that were used for the main MODx site as well as the forum. Reason is that if we’re really serious about getting a new theme in then we really need to think about matching it up with the theme of the main site as well. Just a thought.

Oh, and I got a few more edits I’ll be bringing in myself. Probably won’t finish them till this weekend. I’ve been busy as hell at work and have been too damn tired to even think about sitting on a computer at night! LOL!

Oh yeah, I am We are serious about getting a new theme , but is it really needed to match with our main site ?

Another thing, I just installed Banzai’s theme and ..... ah! No doubt, he did a great job, but from usability point of view the default theme is better ... or in other words, we need to heavily tweak it to be usable for users who have eye-sight problems or say general audience.

So what you think guys ?
