A twitter page worth following up on MODx

Very interresting to check out what is said about MODx on twitter... I had some trouble converting to twitter but thanks to Jay I am starting to get its potential...

If you use tweetdeck (http://www.tweetdeck.com/beta/) you can have searches in panes in real time instead of using firefox windows all the time. In addition you can use it to group tweeters and auto shorten urls etc. I highly recommend it. I have it open all the time in a 2nd monitor. I currently have all my local tech folks in one pane, modx search results in one and CMS search results in another. Truly realtime pulse.

NTM in helping people on twitter I have made dozens of business contacts, and more than $1000 dollars in business from answering questions in my areas of expertise. It has become a necessary business tool.

Thanks Jay yes I had seen it, installed it and still use Twhirl at the moment : did I miss something or does Tweetdeck support multi-accounts ? Didn’t find this feature and need it since I have an account to tweet in english, one for french and one for modx in french...

Thwirl does auto shorten urls too, and it handles multiple accounts.
The only reason I do not use TweetDeck is multiple account... unless you can launch multiple instance of tweetdeck but it will take a lot of space !

Unfortunately in france Twitter is not yet a business tool... lots of people still understand it as a status update service for young people and not necessarily as a social service professionnals can use to provide real time consults. If you hadn’t convinced me to dig into it further, I would have missed it !

Anyway twitter has taken a great turn for me anyway, with SweetCron being installed on my domain both in french and english (http://david-molliere.net/en/) it boost my visibility as my tweets as well as blog post are all in the same place The install is a quick and dirty one, with a very simple template at the moment but I’ll upgrade it when I have more time.

It’s kind of a way to use twitter as a micro-blogging tool too !

Ahh, I forgot about your multiple accounts. Its coming. So I’d stick with twhirl until its’ done. I’ll let you know or follow @iaindodsworth the creator of tweetdeck.

But I still don’t use twitter as a business tool, maybe I missed something or I use it the wrong way?

You can use Twitter the way you want. My business use falls within helping others but with a personal touch. I follow people that interest me not necessarily my friends. I help out those seeking help in modx and recommend modx to CMS users with tweets like "GAWD my CMS Sucks. I can’t do anything" and etc.

Its about sharing with new people and learning from others. I don’t use it as a personal IM/Chat service or to let people know what I ate for breakfast. That’s what facebook or pownce are for.

It is as much personal branding as it is genuine help. I help where I can and ask for help when its needed.

It has morphed away from its intended use of posting what you are doing at any given moment into a vehicle for 2 way conversation starters, pitches, updates, customer_services and more.

I liken it to the clusters of people that mingle at a conference. You may not know all of them personally but the conversation is varied and depending on who you follow and who follows you it can be tremendously educational.

I’d say follow more people, track search terms that relate to your industry and talk to strangers and share. Don’t be afraid to use twitter for crowdsourcing or marketing (if you do it with honesty and are upfront).

As I said, before Jay enlightened me I had the same reaction... indeed people think it’s like Pownce or Facebook, that’s the first reaction I get from a lot of people... starting with most contributor to the french community when I announced I started http://twitter.com/modxcms_fr

I send login and password to the 12 member of the french team @modxcms.fr so that we’d collectively tweet but so far I am the only one tweeting...

It’s really amazing that I missed the search feature, it opens a totally different twitter world to me... just answered someone who tweeted "This Modx blog script is a nightmare...i’m gonna go for Wordpress again very soon... "
