    Hi,

    Please check my site
    http://www.kenweb.net/
I have tried to make a "directory" "yellow pages" type of site with just MODx and Ditto.
    Any advise?

    Jan

PS: Some css3 magic for Firefox, Safari and Chrome. wink

      Hi Jan,

Nice! seems like the keyword filtering isn’t working though

maybe you could have some "Main Categories" as well + the keyword filtering which seems to make sense for that kind of directory -> http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=37081.0

        Thanks Jan,

It was just a simple mistake. I have two TVs and I was pointing to the wrong one.

However, the page you directed me to seems interesting. I will study it further.

        Thanks again.

i just realize you already got it working with some kind of Main Categories (e.g. All /Manufacturers etc) + keywords (chairs, shelves etc.)
how did you do that (separate the tags for the tag cloud & main categories)? one folder for each category with a custom Ditto-call?
also, maybe it would make sense to show the customer on the listings-page which category the company is in + the keywords/tags that are connected with it separately....right now the categories & tags/keywords are mixed together (Products:...)
          e.g.:
          Trix Boutique
          category: Manufactures
keywords: dresses, shorts, tailor made jackets, etc
          visit website >>
but that’s just my personal taste of sorting items wink

The categories are under one folder [which has a separate ditto call], whereas the tags/keywords are on a separate landing page [with its own ditto call].

Your idea about also including the keywords is very good. However, my problem is space, I don’t want the listing rectangles bigger than they are. I am thinking how to implement that.

The "Products" are only the categories. Maybe the products should only be tags/keywords. I think this might be better?

Jan, you are right. The "Products" on the categories pages display categories. When the keywords are clicked the "Products" show the keywords.

How do I show the keywords on the category pages?

                hmmm..i can’t really tell, since i don’t understand your setup 100% smiley
following the setup from the link i posted above, i would tick-off one or two checkboxes for the main categories of each document/company i create, then insert a comma separated list of keywords/tags -> you got two ditto-landing pages: one which lists the main categories (you can create a ditto template for the main category listings which includes the tags/keywords)
and one landing page for the tags/keywords (also custom or same ditto template as for category landing)...so you could jump between main-categories and tags..

as dev_cw pointed out in the other thread you could use a wrapper snippet in case you want to go with one ditto-call on the landing page:
On the targer page you could either choose a target for ’tags’ and another one for ’categories’ or you could use a wrapper snippet to feed the tagData parameter with either the $_GET[’tags’] or $_GET[’cat’] value. This was what I opted for since it kept everything on a single document.
haven’t tried it that way though...ihere’s his blog-post about wrapper snippets: http://modxdeveloper.com/blog/the-wrapper-snippet-run-a-snippet-from-within-another-snippet

The great thing about MODx is there are many ways to do a certain thing.
In fact I killed two birds with one stone. [As I was not very happy with the automatic insertion of the category tags.]
I just put the products manually in the introtext. At least I have the freedom now to only put the products that I want to without stretching the box too much.

                  Thanks for your suggestions.

Take a look of what I’m doing right now! http://www.williamgrivera.com/design_directory/ The only category that have content right now is Web Design. So first click on Web Design, then on Portfolios and you will see a list where you can click the title or the image and it will send you to the more info page. Let me know what you think about this. I have been two days working on this... I still have a lot of work to do.
