Hello all...
My name is Patrick and I’ve made my first MODx site here http://www.buymoviesdvd.com.
It’s been a fun experience. There’s plenty more to do, like figuring out:
1. search stuff
2. put results into several pages
3. link pages together (i.e. putting them into the left menu)
4. design

Any comments & suggestions are appreciated.

Looks like you have a good starting point, now just bring it in. Good use of Ditto.

Just wondering, did you create documents for each movie or is that somehow retrieved directly from ebay? How did you get the number of bids information?

The document is an RSS feed from ebay, and the bid info is in the feed.

Have any tips on how to break down the list into several pages?

That is a cool idea, i like it. If you can get the info live then why put it into independent docs? Seems like it would be maintenance free if you just get the info live.

Hm.. can u elaborate on this? It’ll be a cool idea if it can be as maintenance free as it can..
I think independent docs are needed because say you want to have only a "DVD" only section.. you’ll need a different rss link.. and therefore u need a different doc.. right?

I think you are correct. If you want to be able to do filters etc. then I think you need to have the info into modx.

You may be able to accomplish something by using the eBay API:

..But with the eBay API, you communicate directly with the eBay database in XML format. By using the API, your application can provide a custom interface, functionality and specialized operations not otherwise afforded by the eBay interface.

Actually, this API stuff is a bit over my head, but based on theory this could be a possibility.

Once you know what the category id of DVDs are, you simply add that extra parameter in your call.

You should probably ask about paging in the feedx support thread. I’m not sure it’s possible out of the box.

(Not suggesting you should switch over to SP altogether now, but maybe that code gives you an idea how to achieve it with Feedx...)
