    Hi all -

I’m converting my wallpapers site from Fundanemt CMS to MODx (Fundanemt has problems with sites of 500+ pages). On my Fundanemt site I have very good horizontal menu system which loads each submenu on a line under the parent menu. This means that visitors can get to any part of the site from anywhere with a minimum of clicks. It actually works by setting up a menu array for each level (can be extended) and PHP parsing each of these menu levels. But I can’t work out how to do this in MODx.

I would prefer a CSS-only menu as some visitors use javascript blocking tools. The site is very simple - at the moment a page header, the menu section, content, and footer (no columns - I can add them later if I want).

I have tried a lot of templates downloaded from the MODx site, but none do the job I need. They either are not formatted for more than a couple of levels, or the extra submenus flow over the content.

If I spent a few days studying hard, I might get there. But I am busy adding the content to the site (which I want to bring online over the weekend), and I really need some help with this menu problem.

I’ve attached a screenshot of how my site looks on Fundanemt CMS (you can also view it at www.50000freewallpapers.com . I’ve also attached the Fundanemt CSS & index file (template) as it may help whoever wants to assist me.

I can afford to pay $20US via PayPal (I am a pensioner) . As it is not a major task, it will hopefully be fast money for a menu expert. Once completed, the menu coding can be shared, as I’m sure many others would like multi-level horizontal menus. I am a CSS & PHP novice - it has been a very steep learning curve for me over the past couple of weeks, and I have just found that this part of the design is beyond my skill level.

    Thanks,

    Scott

must it be that menu type?

it could be done I think and not even that hard to do
but look at the menu’s @ cssplay.co.uk almost any menu there is dooable using wayfinder.

Are there more then 3 levels? will you make 5 lvels?
and is it nesesery to have the same menu at the bottom also?

I see that the menu is made using a seperate ul for each level.

I could make something like that I think.
I will have a look at it later so if somone else has this ready now just do it.

Thanks Dimmy - at the moment I think the most I have is 4 levels, but it may go up to 5 as I am looking at adding sections for different sized wallpapers under each category. So Britney Spears might be under - Female Celebs - B - Britney Spears - 1024x768 - Page 1, 2 etc.

The menu at the bottom isn’t necessary - I just thought it was a nice feature so visitors wouldn’t have to go back to the top to get to the next gallery.

I’ll have a look at CSSplay, but my concentration is pretty bad at the moment. I have ADHD - on a good day I can focus intensely, but on a bad day like today learning new tasks is almost impossible. That’s why I’m doing the data entry at the moment - it doesn’t require a lot of brainpower LOL.

In the meantime, my $20 offer is still on the table. The quicker I can get this done the better.

        Cheers,

        Scott

Thanks again. I thought I would not be bringing my site online for another week or so, but MODx is so much quicker than Fundanemt when it comes to adding/modifying pages that I may be all finished by Sunday or Monday. Fundanemt has to refresh the whole document tree every time you add a page - very, very slow. With MODx you can ad one page after another without needing the tree refresh.

I guess I’m lucky I don’t need Ritalin - but I do have to lead a very quiet lifestyle to manage things. A big change from the wild party animal I was in my 20’s! LOL

You can duplicate whole folders in no time! And then there is this ---> http://modxcms.com/SuperPage-945.html
Haven’t used it but have to mention it here!  smiley

But the tree has some limitation around 5000+ so its good to think of your options and read this thread [ http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,18872.msg161906.html#msg161906 ]

Thanks for the Super Page link - I’m about to put 20-odd pages of Britney online, so I will give it a try.

It’s taken me over 18 months to get to the 1600 or so pages I already have, so I don’t think I will be nearing the 5000 for quite some time yet.

I’ve been having a look around the forum and I think this may be the direction to go in: How do I create and mange separate sub level menus with Wayfinder?:
I usually simply make one template (or chunk) per level (depth). That way I can always just refer to the parent and the containing children.
If someone could possibly show me how to make (what to put in) the chunks for each menu level, and what to put in my CSS and main template (single column, flexible width, horizontal menus underneath each other), I might be able to move on from there.

Of course, if you can design the template & give me the finished product (I can do the chunks for my AdSense etc), I will be even happier. smiley

                    Thanks,

                    Scott

I’m getting there (slowly). I’ve worked out how to get the sub-menus separated - now I just need to know a way to stop lower menus from repeating themselves. I posted my question here: How do I create and mange separate sub level menus with Wayfinder?
