Ability to Rename a Category

It’d be nice to have the ability to rename a category and have it update all of the snippets/chunks/plugins ect in that category without having to manually edit each one.

Just a two cents suggestion.

That would be very nice to have, I know I have a growing category collection on some of my sites to keep me organized.

The ability to expand/collapse categories would also be nice.

Here is a stupid question...be gentle: what do you mean by category? Is this the same as a tag? If so the solution is to reference it as an ID so if you need to rename it just change the name. Easier said than done but in theory this would be a solution.

When you create a new chunk or snippet you have the option to give it a catagoy otherwise it’s uncategorized.

If you install the sample site you can see these in use to organize chunks and such.

I think that you would need to change the value directly in the db, it is the modx_categories (if modx_ is the col prefix). just edit the name in the ’category’ field.

This could be made into a module since it is a simple db query. I think that by following sottwell’s module tutorial (in her signature) this could be done easily. Something to consider on a rainy day.

These are already in a separate table and referenced by id. Why can you not edit it through the interface? All the resources should then reflect the change, no?

There’s no feature to rename categories. If you use the "Combined View" tab you can delete categories, then you’ll have to create the one you want and move all of the items that were in the old one and are now in "uncategorized" into your new one.

But it could be done with a plug-in, correct? And it would be rather straight forward since it has just two fields.

Well it sounds like something easy to change if a plug in or something was developed, but i’m not the person to develop it so I will stick to just requesting it and converting templates. Granted it would be nice if that was an integrated feature, but plug in and/or included plug in would work.

The easiest solution is to simply edit this in the database editor (phpMyAdmin). A module could be built but I don’t have the energy to work on this at the moment, sorry.
