    Hi all.
Because of the way almost everything in MODx is stored in the database, it’d be great to get some more keyboard shortcuts, especially for saving or canceling pages. Usually I have an app (WinSCP) auto-update my server when I save a local file, but since MODx isn’t grabbing files that doesn’t work, so I end up copying, mousing to the appropriate text-box in the manager, going back to the keyboard to paste and/or remove the php tag at the top (which I include so my text-editor color codes correctly), and going back to the mouse to hit "Save". Having Alt+S trigger the save button would be great to save time and my wrists wink

A GreaseMonkey script would probably work just as well, but my javascript abilities are absolutely horrible. I know that some people (probably the Opera users) would object to having this in the core, but in IE and FF it’d be a huge time saver.

Just an idea. Any thoughts? Anybody figure out a much more efficient way that I’m missing? Thanks all!

PS Sorry if this has been discussed before. I’ve searched and can’t find anything, but I’m guessing it’s not the first time this has been suggested.

That’s a little tricky, since alt-s is already mapped by the browser to save the page. Generally, trying to hijack a basic system mapping like that ends up causing a lot of trouble.

How would that work on Mac OS X?

Ah, I see the difference; it’s my Mac usage that made me forget...instead of alt-s we use the Apple key: Apple-s, Apple-c, Apple-v etc. There is still the Option/alt key and the ctrl key. Sometimes it gets a bit confusing when I’m working with a Terminal app and have to remember to use the ctrl key for shortcuts! But yes, having a shortcut key to save the document would be nice; I fairly frequently hit that key combination out of habit, only to have the browser’s Save Page dialog pop up!

Yeah Susan... I know what you mean. Most of the time I am editing my MODx Docs from the manager, when I am ready to save them I hit command+S and Firefox asks me if I want to save it as source or as a web backup? For a second my brain says WTF, then I realize that I am using a web app and I need to click the save button on the top of the page. This probably happens more than I would like to admit huh

I know this is kind of a dead issue, but seeing as the new forum layout uses shortcut keys...
The forum now uses Alt+S to publish your new posts. That’s great, as Alt+S isn’t used in Firefox or IE.

Unfortunately, it also hijacks the Alt+D to redirect to the online demo. This is really annoying, as Alt+D gets the focus to the browser address bar.

So, I totally agree with you, Susan, on hijacking standard browser keys. Alt+S seems pretty safe (even in Opera I think, though I’m not sure about Safari). I’ve posted this as a feature request, because I think it’d be very handy. Anybody have issues with Alt+S and have any better ideas?

And as an aside, who should I plead with to remove the Alt+D mapping in this forum? wink

I’ve created a Greasemonkey script with this functionality. See here:
