    I don’t know about others, but my single biggest need for Modx is an array of client-friendly tools. Quickedit is a great start. I’m just wondering what’s ahead for TP4 before I start some hacks. Some of this was sort of covered in the Quickedit thread, but just want to them in one place.

    Wishes:
    1. More customization for manager menu, especially a way to run a module from it. For example, I created the following simple module to add a job listing page:
    $fields=array(
            "type"=>"document",
            "contentType"=>'text/html',
            "pagetitle"=>"New Job",
            "longtitle"=>"New Job",
            "description"=>"Short description goes here",
            "parent"=>25,
            "content"=>"Long description goes here",
            "richtext"=>1,
            "template"=>6,
            "searchable"=>1,
            "createdby"=>1,
            "createdon"=>time()
    );

    $modx->putIntTableRow($fields, "site_content");

    $id=mysql_insert_id();
    //header (Location: "http://ccwm.org?id=".$id());

    I’d like that to be a menu option in the manager, not require the user to go to Manage Modules and right-click on the module icon. Ideally if I had the 2 wishes below, the user would either be directed to a simplified manager page to edit the content and publish it, or would be directed to the frontend to edit the content then publish the page.

    2. Customizeable document editing pages. So I don’t have to explain what an alias is, for example.

    3. More frontend page tools--page tree, add, move, publish document. Optionally show unpublished documents to logged in users.

    4. A graphical way to handle menu indexes, instead of entering numbers.

    5. Drag and drop (sort of) TV-driven snippets. We now have TV’s to pass parameters instead of the old string method. So let’s take it all the way--you drop a snippet in, refresh the doc and a set of fields appears to set the values for the snippet. No more looking in the code to find out how to use it.

    I’m guessing you guys are already working on this stuff--yes???

      Good suggestions. About the frontend tools. I’m planning on working on these features and others as soon as I have the time. Things have been a bit busy for me but I hope to get some time to put some more work into QuickEdit soon.

      As far as the other things go. I believe that most of the things you mentioned will be a part of the 1.0 release but I’m not sure how much is slated for TP4. The biggest change in TP4 will be a complete redo of the manager which will probably feature most of the improvements you’ve mentioned.

        TP4 will have much of what you wish for, but not all. However, it will certainly be much simpler to customize and we’re planning on hiding much of the stuff that gives it the perception of complexity in advanced configuration options that may or may not be viewable based on the manager level. You’ll be able to totally change the look of the manager with a few images and by editing one CSS file, too.

          This sounds great. I don’t have to have this all right away, but have a client that has completely rejected the current manager, but I’ve held onto him with the promise that a simpler "Page Editing for Dummies" (his words) version is coming.

          Unless TP4 is just days away, I think I can make do in the meantime with a bit of hacking, mainly putting some links to modules as in wish #1. Viewing an unpublished doc is easy enough to hack in the parser, but the Quickedit fields don’t show up properly. Where would those get turned on?

            You should start your hacking engine because it’s definitley more than "just dasys away". I share your pain with the comments on the manager! Direct all QE questions to an appropriate thread if you don’t mind.

              This is my number one wish! ’Dumbed down’ document creation and editing for regular site owners/users. The full manager can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

              I’m wondering right now how I can tie in some of the functionality of the manager on a simple frontend page assigned to a manager group/user of course. My thought is to make a set of pages that will make up a ’control panel’. View docs, click links to edit, create new, move doc, all with basic form fields.

              The quick edit module takes care of editing existing documents, but not creating new ones. Unless I’m missing something.

                  I can’t imagine something more simple than quickedit to modify a page.

                    It’s so true, but the lackness of quickedit right now is the inability to create a new document on the front page, such as newspublisher. I don’t think that’s a big issue here, but if it supports it, it’s even better.
