Terrible News

Some of you will know or remember my partner Kunal Kapoor who worked with me at Limesharp Internet, although over recent months we had not made many posts to the forums due to heavy work loads.

On Friday evening, Kunal was involved in a horrific head-on collision in his car near MIlton keynes (England) and paramedics were unable to save his life. He was just 23 years old and I am completely and utterly devastated. He was a close friend, colleague and an extremely nice person.

We worked together on many MODx projects, Kunal mostly dealt with the PHP, MySQL configuration and web hosting configuration whilst I dealt with design, CSS, XHTML templating. This worked very well and we had many satisfied Modx customers, Kunal like myself loved the MODx product.

I am deeply upset but felt the need to post this tragic information to the forum to all the other skilled Modx developers who work so hard every day, like ourselves. Please take a moment to reflect and let us never forget how quickly circumstances can change and what is truly important in our lives every day ....

@edge: all I can offer are my condolences for your loss; I had conversed with Kunal a few times online and instantly recognized his talent and loyalty to this project and community. He will be missed immensely, and despite the tragic nature of this event, thank you for sharing this with us; an old saying reminds me that "shared joy is double-joy, shared sorrow is half-sorrow."

Here’s to Kunal...may we not soon forget him or the importance of those friends and family members who are an integral part of our lives.

This is terribly sad news.

As Jason says, thank you for sharing with the community. Having been there with a close one who also died too young, I think sharing is the only thing which can help us through these hard times.

I joined the project around the same time Kunal joined in, and from day one reading his contribution I knew he was going to be an asset to this community, and indeed he proved to be a valuable talent. I remember him saying it was his first contribution to an opensource project but it sure didn’t look like it. Though I didn’t know him personnally, he exhibited the enthusiasm and open mindedness which made exchanging ideas with him a real pleasure. I’ll miss him.

Kunal was a great person who had a fantastic character and a natural passion for web development. I offer my heart-felt sampathy and condolences to Kunal’s family and friends in this very sad time.

I, for one, will miss him as I’m sure everyone in the MODx community who knew him will.

Edge, I am so sorry to hear this. I know, a partner can be as close or closer than family, and this is a devastating blow. You have my most sincere condolances, as well as his "real" family.

This is a terrible shock to me.

I am only acquainted with Kunal through his interesting and informative posts but when you hang around on a forum for any length of time you get to "know" other regular contributors and so, although we never met or even conversed, I do feel like I have lost a friend.

David, I’m deeply sorry to hear about Kunal and you have my deepest sympathies. And, you’re right, Kunal was indeed a very talented man. It’s very sad to hear about such talent pass us so prematurely. I only wish someone like Kunal could stick around long enough to see that which he loves grow and mature.

On that note, I very much would like to see some sort of memorium be placed in honor of Kunal. Perhaps we could place a dedication somewhere in the MODx code for him. Even better, for any developer who has had an impact on the MODx community, I would like to see if we can create a spot for dedications and memorium that we can add to with each build of MODx. Kunal would be the first and the impedus for this.
