It’s a great initiative..

The site seems slow though. Trying to get some data to back that up right now...


As you can see in the screenshots, it’s taking quite long (the first image being force refresh, the other three being follow up visits) to build the page. It’s doesn’t seem to be due to excessive use of files, but waiting for the source to be compiled..


Let me guess: you’re having uncached snippets fetching the categories, versions, tags, languages, sites and archives? If my guess is right it would probably be better to call them cached, and include a hook in the FormIt call (the submit form is FormIt, I guess) that will clear the cache so that everytime a new link is added it refreshes.

actually I knew that dynamic navigation would take some time since it would always fetch the database.
and that’s why I use that navigation built with ajax to let the page loaded first.

but yeah,
I’ll try the uncache workaround.

With navigation you mean the sidebar with tags, versions etc?

I didn’t even notice the sidebar was loaded with ajax - that thing loads insanely fast.

However, the "static" source code of the site still takes ages - so that makes me curious what you got in your template... Something’s causing it to take up to 15 seconds to load with a force refresh in FF with firebug open. Follow up pages take 1-2 seconds (for the static source) which is quite long imo..

Just checked my own site: a force refresh takes ~100-150ms to process. After clearing the site cache that’s just under 500ms.


If you want I could check your template if you’d send me some login details to my email (see sig), or you could post it here and others can also see if there’s any possible optimizations?

All templates are actually file based and I call them uncached with [[!includeFile]], as I needed it that way when developing the site .
Even the chunks! I only have a very minimum chunks amount. It’s only 2 chunks right now.
I don’t like edit chunks on MODX’s manager.
And you should realize that there is still the ’recusive JSON’ bug on the chunk editing page.
Go check your modx’s error log AFTER you edit any chunk.

Anyway,
If you’re interested to join developing the site, it’s better that you PM me your private email, so I can send you the whole site package to be investigated (thanks to the @splittingred’s PackMan ).

That brought the force refresh back to 4 seconds already! Woohoo!

You can just use my business email from my sig. My business sort of is MODX (not that I’m linked to MODX, LLC, but my main projects are, well, modx stuff. ).


I wouldn’t mind checking a package, but I think it’s easier to just look in the manager. Else I’d make changes in my package, which we’d then have to move back to the main site only to find out you had changed something else in the meantime. If you want we could do a skype screenshare, so you can see what I’m looking at and cancel it at any time Just drop me an email/pm for my skype, too.

Since I’ve already resolved that problem, I’d like to ask you help me in other way.
Moderating the submission.

It won’t be hard.
You don’t even have to log in to the manager.
The approval is made by email.
So, if you’re interested, I’ll promote you as the moderator.
Each new link submission will send an email approval to all moderators.
If you want to change the email address, just change it from your profile page.
