Internet Exploder 9

Looks like Microsoft does it again. Promises of a better, safer, more secure browser in its beta release of IE 9. Doubtful.

What is even less surprising is that IE 9 is NOT XP compatible. Time to upgrade your operating system, boys and girls.

Well they did take a huge step by adding some CSS3 support, I guess they are expecting us to throw them a party or something...

Personally I say it’s a step forward, but until IE6 is dead and they catch up with other browsers support of CSS3...

I hear that its better than Netscape Navigator 4.

Leaving text-shadow and gradients out, I think IE will always remain behind.

For sure it will remain behind, but it is also a huge step forward (a blessing for us developpers & designers).
Performance are tremendous, and security is good (as were security in IE8 from an entreprise point of view)

The non compatibity with XP is normal, the OS will not be supported by the firm in 2012 and some technologies used by IE9 are not available in XP natively.

I will stay with FF though

IE’s bar was set so low that when they start doing what they’re supposed to do, they expect us to throw a party.

Funny thing is, Firefox 4 RC1 works on XP machines. Go figure! Plus IE9 with all the talk about security this, security that just got "pwned" again in the Pwn2Own hacking contest. The sole survivors you asked? FF 4 RC1 and Chrome.

I say IE6 must die before I take IE9 seriously.

Chrome was not targeted, like Opera.

It’s a huge step forward. Big enough for me to start checking if my webpages work on IE Some widely implemented CSS3 functions were left out, which is a bummer. I feel like it means that we have to wait a year to be able to use them 100%.

I hate the compatibility button, because it breaks my site completely, so I added the necessary meta tag to get rid of it. I feel dirty for doing that to be honest. Breaks my heart when I have to write a different line of code for each browser. IE9 does support border radius and other stuff without any prefixes, which is surprising to me. I always expect the worst when it comes to IE.

It’s also kind of interesting that the manager pretty much doesn’t work with IE. There are some visual quirks, but more importantly the resource tree does not work at all.

I think that’s fine, as long as you don’t need to modify your pages for them to be compatible with IE.
