Hm. A bit over the top, I think.

I like the logo. Looks like a strong force, waiting to crush millions of people’s browsers who are still stuck in the stone ages..

Okay - that may be a little over the top for a programming language... but it shows force, strength, progressive enhancement. Which makes me feel like maybe I should dive into html5 a lil’ more. And I guess that’s part of the intentions behind creating the logo - building a brand that people trust.

For me, it’s a decent logo and all but the whole thing feels a little gimicky for a markup standard, no? For a ’product’ then sure, but for html ..?

I’ve got many random thoughts on the new logo.

• Not sure it matter’s to me, I’ve never jumped on any other html w3c standards logo’s etc. band wagon.
  I just quietly go about validating my code in whatever version and standard I am using that is important to me
• the logo in those huge sizes is overwehlming, the size you preview something in matters. It may have been better received just as an icon, and everyone could have agreed it kicked ass.
• Most of the noise at least on my Twitter feeds was that the html 5 and w3c were over reaching and claiming to rule all the technologies even CSS3, Canvas, you name it.
• If they just wanted to create a promotional buzz, that’s not a bad thing is it?

And finally HTML 5 is still a pipe dream in some circles, you find a cool new preview ship it to your boss and he says, it doesn’t work in IE8, well shit, nevermind then, it must not of been that cool, burned again, lol.
