Firefox 3.5 annoyances

Annoyance 1: Installed FF 3.5 and all of a sudden and much to my irritation, a click on my tabs and a movement of the mouse would detach my tabs and open them new windows! >:( I thought it was something to do with my addons..or my mouse..it wasn’t. After lots of searching and considering a downgrade, I discovered the feature is called "Tab Tearing" and that in FF 3.5 a lot of accidental Tab Tearings do happen! Tab Tearing is basically opening that tab in a new (detached) window (as if you didn’t know that already....yes I know, am slow ).

Has this happened to you? Well, I found this little addon [bug489729* (Disable detach and tear off tab) 1.3] that makes FF 3.5 behave...show it who’s the boss and not to open windows unless I want to and explicitly tell it by right clicking...

*Workaround: Bug 489729 - Clicking a tab once and then moving your mouse in a downward motion causes a new window to open.

Annoyance 2:For the life of me I cannot get the "awesome" bar to open to reveal my top visited urls by clicking the drop arrow (on the right). I am just living with it for the moment - yes I’ve searched FF forums, etc and none of the solutions worked....I have to type a letter/number on the keyboard for it to drop down -sigh- . The awesome bar isn’t that awesome anymore....

Still, FF 3.5 seems faster than 3.0!

1) Tab Tearing was already on 3.0. Tab tearing and tab merging (if we can call it that, the opposite of tab tearing).

2) Mine works fine... mmm...

Yes, 3.5 seems faster, maybe try 3.5.1, already out!


3) One of my own, 4 of my favorite addons are not compatible with 3.5... Translator is the one I miss the most...
hopefully they will upgrade them soon...

I’m on 3.5.1 and the tearing is still there...I mean accidental tearing...never experienced that in 3.0

Just so you don’t feel lonely, this happens to me as well (Linux Shiretoko/3.5.1pre), and it can be rather annoying (although not as annoying as when cut/copy and the right-click menus would suddenly stop working in FF 3.0).

Personally I find right clicking in FF is way too slow...maybe it’s my addons, I don’t know...but the response could be faster...

The only reasons I still use FF for browsing are, Stylish, ScrapBook and AdBlock Plus...

The change from "clear private data" to "clear recent history" threw me at first and the terminology still irks me. Having to specify the time period you want cleared is also an annoyance and a potential source of trouble when we tell people to clear the browser cache and they don’t set it far enough back.

Somewhere in all these FF upgrades my bookmark folder got duplicated,
so now I have a ton of folders (I think it was since the upgrade to 3.0)

Anybody knows how to get rid of this... fast (I know I can go one by one comparing and deleting
but it will take too long to do it that way!!)

What platform? On OS X, check your <username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<whatever>.default folder. You should have a whole bunch of bookmarks-xx.html files; one of them just might be a good backup to the bookmarks.html file. I don’t know if Windows keeps such a backup, nor where it would be.

Thanks Susan, Yes in windows, I will see if they have a similar path as in OS X.
