ModX Cache problems

I hope I am posting in the correct section, apologies if I am not.
I am not really up to speed with ModX I designed the site but someone else set up the ModX side of things.
There was a problem with the server in that somehow we had managed to use up all the disk space, it had filled up with core files, to the point that when I performed an update on a file it was unable to write to the cache file fully. When I try to get into manager I get the folowing error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/southq/public_html/assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php on line 10490

The hosting company are saying I should clear the cache, or upload the file I was trying to update.

As I was using ModX at the time to update a calender item I do not have a file to upload again.
Also since I cannot get into the manager I cannot clear the cache.

I am awaiting feedback from the hosting, who have been very good, but I have had no reply this morning with the above problem, more probably to do with the fact that I was emailing a contact there who probably is not on this morning.

Any help would be very very very much appreciated.

Your best bet is to upload the install folder again and run the installer in "upgrade" mode. That will refresh the cache file.

Thanks for that advice, have been in contact, with the ModX side of our website and was informed If we were to upload the install folder again it might cause problems as its a new version out which may have issues. >:(

Any suggestions.

Don’t they have a backup of the original install folder? They must have downloaded the MODx zip file. If they still have it, they can extract and upload the install folder that’s in it.

First of all thanks for all the help it is really appreciated.
There is a lot missing in the cache file it did stop in mid line (bit of a beginner with PHP).
I have found the original MODx zip file and have found the install folder, but I am unsure on how to go about running the installer, I do not want to make a bad situation even worse. I can upload it no problem, but I am unsure where to put it.

In your site root so you would have the folder structure:

I have the following in the root:
/images
/downloads
/manager
/assets
/cgi-bin

I have been looking for hours but cannot find an install folder anywhere, although the person that put it up says it should be there.

Any advice very very much appreciated, although sleep deprivation seems to be getting to me, so am a bit wooly today and might need things spelt out very simply to me.

The install folder is deleted automatically (if you tick the box asking you to let it delete the install folder when its done with installing) once modx is installed. If you don’t tick the "delete install folder", modx will remind you to delete it. This is for security reasons...

What bunk58 meant is that if you are installing modx to the root, upload the install folder so that you will have assets, manager and install folders in the site of your root.. Since you already have the folders assets and manager in your root, just upload the install folder to join them.

Once installed, the install folder will be deleted automatically if you tick that box asking you whether the folder should be deleted.

I suggest you backup your site first before attempting to reinstall. I know you have issues with the old site but at least backup the database.

I know it’s scary to have something like this happen. I just wanted to reassure you that the odds are good on the upgrade install fixing things and restoring your site to the way it was before with all your content intact. Do back it up, but in all the messing with development versions of MODx I’ve done I end up doing a lot of upgrade installs and 99% of the time, the site is back to normal after the install without losing any of my work. The only exception is in the case of a corrupted database, which is a relatively rare occurrance.

Let this be a lesson about keeping regular backups of the entire site on your local machine (now, if only I would follow my own advice ).

I would like to thank you all for dragging me kicking and screaming through the update. The site is now back up and running. I went with the version we used originally and managed to click the button to upgrade did a lot of praying and it actually worked. Thanks again every one.

Now I really must back up this website more often. (For some reason it is the only website I have that I did not have a back up for, mind you its the only website that uses MODx. )
