Flash Video acting strange in IE6-IE7

Ok this is a weird one:

If you look at this page in IE6 on a PC, you’ll see a large space in the upper right of the page. Now, change your browser text size from medium to larger and like magic the flash movie appears! Does anyone have insight as to why this is happening? It doesn’t behave this way in Safari or Firefox. I think it also may act funky in IE7.

maybe you should upgrade the js to the last version first.

and have you tried to uncomment the last lines of .htaccess files ?

Thanks for the advice. I just tried both. I’ve updated the swfobject.js code, and I’ve uncommented the bottom few lines of the .htaccess file which takes care of flicker in IE on CSS rollovers.

Unfortunately, the issue still remains. It’s odd, if you refresh the page a few times, the video player comes up. Almost like it’s randomly loading.
On a similar note, if you click on the contact tab to the right of the top, you’ll see extra repeated text on the bottom of that page. But, if you refresh the browser the text disappears!

Hmm. The first thing that jumps out at me is that you’re not using SWFobject the way that I do. Did you see this method somewhere, or did you come up with it on your own?

I’ve always declared a div to contain my flash content in the XHTML itself (not in JavaScript) and located the script that does the replacing after and outside of that div. I wonder if the div that you’re creating in JavaScript doesn’t have proper layout due to the manner in which you’re creating it. Just seems odd to do it that way to me...

Ok great, I set up the proper code for swfobject to call the movie, and it seems to have fixed the problem in IE6-IE7.
So now that just leaves the other issue. If you flip though the pages in IE6, you’ll see that sometimes at random, a string of characters appears under the left hand column.

What’s strikes me as odd is that if you view the HTML source code, this duplicated text does not show up. Could this be a bug or a template issue? Not sure. Thanks.

That is odd. If it’s not in the HTML source then it’s not being sent to the browser by MODx, so then it’s likely some sort of CSS or browser rendering glitch in IE6. Are you using a "real" copy of IE6, or a virtualized or other non-standard version (I sometimes get lingering artifacts on IE6 when I run it via Wine in Linux).

nope this is legal version of windows (can you believe it) running IE6. I also have a Firefox extension called IE Tab that allows me to switch back and forth between the two browsers. I get the same string of random characters there. No idea what’s going on.

I see some double semicolons in your stylesheet. Not sure what that’s about. I would validate your CSS and see what you come up with, since I assume that this is some sort of weird IE6 CSS bug but I couldn’t tell you what.
