I was able to do this in the management page, but when i load the home page it doesn’t point to the default template that i just made but rather the "Modx" template. How do I get around this? Like when i got to www.mywebsite.com/modx, it doesn’t show my template. I’ve tried to find some reading about this but just found more tutorials on making them. I’m still getting to know modx. I’ve published the new template and made it the default, but still doesn’t work. Any ideas?
Creating a template and making it default will only make it default for newly created documents unless you had selected one of the two options below the dropdown (In
Administration > Sysem Configuration > Site settings you have under "Default template" two radio button options : "Reset all pages to use Default template" or "Reset only ’Default Template’ pages").
If you just want to apply a template to a document individually go to the document tree, click on the document you want to apply your template to. Click on Edit. You’ll be able to edit the Document settings. In the General tab, the 6th line is "Uses template", you have a dropdown select. Select your template.
Don’t forget to Save (button on top).
You should be able to do what you want...

I’ve already done that, but it still doesn’t show, and yes i did click on Save before. My custom template has been applied to a newly created document (home page). Still not working.
also another thing, i forgot to mention that occurred. After doing the default template, I get Modx template but when you go to the "home" link on the modx template page, It points to the newly created template that I’m trying to make the homepage as. What does that mean?
OK, then let’s check one thing : is the document published ? Maybe you’re setup to have documents unpublished by default (in the site setting is "Published default" to no ?).

About the homepage being changed, also in Administration > System Configuration > Site settings check "Site start" that’s where you define which document should be the homepage.

BINGO!!!, Thank you very much. That’s what I was exactly looking for. Okay one last question. When I’m completely done building the content. Do i just move everything in the modx folder into the root html folder to make it as my actual home webpage or would that screw alot things up? folder linking, permission settings,etc...
Glad I could help
The thread wendy is referring to is
[TIP] Making Site moves from Staging to Production Easier
You’ll see that MODx is incredibly flexible in this area, even more so if you use the
CSS as document technique.
