    Howdy:

I am obviously a newbie’s newbie... so I apologize for what might appear to you to be very simple tasks... but are confusing to me as I always need and appreciate a "step by step" instruction set.

Anyway, I have a localhost setup.

    1. I have a document page called "SCHEDULE".
    2. "SCHEDULE" has some "text" on it and a number of "LINKS".
    3. I assume that these "LINKS" can be referred to as "Child Pages" or "Child Documents". Example: Link1, Link2, Link3. These Links call up another "document".
    4. I want to create a user: named "Lorraine".
    5. I want "Lorraine" to have "ACCESS" to "ONLY" the "SCHEDULE" document AND "ALL" of the "Child Pages / Documents".
    6. The "PERMISSION" I want to give her is to ONLY "EDIT" or "CREATE" new text/data/information on "ONLY" the : "SCHEDULE Document" and the "CHILD Pages".
    7. My questions are: What is the best way: A) through the "Front End" or the "Back End"...AND...B) How do I do it?

If you can direct me to a step by step guide...that is much appreciated as I am very dense.

    Thanks
    geronimo

You can use the backend for this purpose.

Please see http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/MODx096/Manager+Users for setting up the permissions.

Feel free to ask questions after reading the doc, and we’ll do best to help. smiley

      Good luck.

        Hi:

        1. I created a user with "Login" and "Password".
        2. Created a "role"....to edit "SCHEDULE" document only.
        3. Created a "user" group.
        4. Assigned the "user" (Lorraine) to the group.
        5. Created a "Documents" group.
        6. Assigned/linked the user group to the documents goup.
        7. Listed the "resource id"....and submitted in Documents management.

        Tested:
        1. I went to a page "NOT" assigned to Lorraine’s group.
        2. It allowed me to edit....which it should NOT have done.
        3. Then a red x appeared beside that resource in the left column... beside the resource and over its icon.
        4. The "Resource Content Window" is gone!!!

I then went out to the site...by opening another page...AND the change had been made...which it should NOT have been made.

What does the red "X" mean?
How do I get rid of it?

        What happened?

        I did something wrong.

        thanks

              it’s a bug in 1.0.1 -> http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,41461.0.html either patch: http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/1.0.x/manager/actions/mutate_content.dynamic.php or update to 1.0.2

                HI:

                OK...I will update to Mod-x 1.0.2....

Please tell me a step by step method so I do not destroy what I have already created.

                I have a "localhost" setup.

                Thanks

                  Howdy:

                  I just did a new install. Installed mod-x 1.0.2.

I did not delete the previous install of mod-x 1.0.1.

                  I created a new Database.

                  I can access BOTH.

Anyway I will let you know of any problems as it pertains to "USER" permissions.

                  Thanks

Actually by default all docs are public. So if u want to hide the docs then u need to create a protected document group eg. admin, and add all other docs into that group. (I should’ve mentioned that before)

Hope you understand. If not, just ask and we will glad to help.

                      To: zi Fm: geronimo....

                      Hi:

I do not want to hide anything.

I want to allow a "person" that is "not me" to enter the site and "edit" her schedule.

                      "SCHEDULE" is a "document".
                      "SCHEDULE" has 2 children... child1 and child2....

I want her to be able to enter the site...front end or back end...AND it appears the back end is the way to go....AND....edit "JUST" those 3 documents.

I do not want her to be able to go anywhere else in the back end.

I want ALL documents to be visible to EVERYONE....in both....the front end AND back end...

Sorry if I was not previously clear.

                      thanks
