I am a PHP programmer with some measure of expertise in another CMS that starts with ’Dru’ and ends with ’pal.’ I am now interesting in trying MODx b/c the reviews are good and the energy here looks very positive.
The Overviews that I finding are too high level for me but the detailed doc pages seem too low level. I am trying to get a handle on the basic concepts. I see that there are or were "modules" but they’re being replaced by "snippets." Then we have Add-Ons and Core Extensions but it’s not clear what those are.
Seems that Add-Ons are "modules" which are now going to be "snippets" but I’m not 100% sure about that.
Core Extensions it seems may be somewhat irrelevant because I don’t see any anyway.
I found this:
The system architecture guide from 0.9.5 to 1.0 will not be the same from a details perspective. It will actually be totally object oriented and abstracted, and very lightweight. The basic concepts and "elements" and "resources" available will actually be reduced in number, but greatly increased in flexibility as well. The code base should take a huge drop in size too.
And so it seems that perhaps I should start with the Revolution version now b/c it’s anyway the wave of the future?
The main question is where can I get an overview of MODx treats content, categories and functionality? In particular if someone knows the basic concepts of Drupal and can tell me must unlearned and what does have a parallel concept here, it would get me started on the right track.
I basically need a definition of the phrase
basic concepts and "elements" and "resources"
Any info for a newbie is appreciated.
Thank you!
