hi all,
please help
when trying to access the manager area (admin),
my browser (camino, firebird on mac) sends a popup with php/html-code instead
of directing me to the admin page..
what’s wrong ;-?
Thank you,
Mike

Most likely a corrupt file. Could also be the result of a server compromise, with script kiddies modifying your manager index file..

Save your config.inc.php file and reupload the manager directory (putting back in the /manager/includes/config.inc.php file in the fresh upload of the manager).
Also, I’d take a very serious look at your server logs to see if there are suspicious activities. If you’re not running the latest MODx release, now would be a good time to upgrade.

mike
dear ganesh,
thank you for your post,
i have an account with a hosting company for a different domain,
i just wanted to try out modx without financial obligations,
but as you pointed out so aptly,
i may have to revise my actions regarding this matter,

You can set up a web server on your local computer quite easily for testing MODx. If you’re on Windows, there’s
XAMPP, on a Mac
MAMP is the easiest way.
dear sottwell,
thanks very much, i have mamp running on my mac ;-)
sometimes even mysql works ;-)
cheers,
mike
btw: would you know of a capable webhoster around 1gb/multiple mysql; there are so many different hosters and so many different opinions, whenever i find one suitable, i immediately come across pretty negative reviews; dreamhost seemed ok to me, but their pricing is a bit "offensive" i would say

I’ve been using MAMP for development work for years, I’ve even got a 0.9.7 alpha installation working on it. I’ve never had a minute’s trouble with it.
Have you configured the mysql and apache ports? By default MAMP uses its own ports rather than the default apache of 80 and mysql of 3306, so that you can continue using the built-in apache and mysql.
I always turn off personal web sharing in Preferences, though, and configure MAMP to use the apach/mysql defaults. That way I don’t have to specify the port when connecting to MySQL.
By default, if you don’t specify a port, PHP tries to use the default port 3306, which would pick up your OS X installed MySQL, if that’s running, instead of the MAMP installation. That would certainly give you problems!
thank you!
ive been suing 8888/8889 as ports,
i disabled sharing,
it is not such a big concern right now,
sometimes i had to use killall to stop the running mysql process,
although why there were mysql-processes running at that particular
point in time is beyond me ;-)
i will talk to the guys at freetzie.com, maybe there is a cheap solution,
otherwise i should be grateful to receive ideas as to where to place my files in
a shared environment!
best wishes!
mike
