The trouble is bots that are trying to guess your password using a brute-force attack. Once they have that password, you’re toast. If it’s an hour between tries, it discourages them.

Hi All

I have tonight logged into my Modx Manager and my login was not accepted. I find this strange as yesterday it was working and I have now been locked out. The password and username are definately correct.

How can I change the password so I can login.

I have followed the instructions for Phpmyadmin, I have changed the login attempts etc but still not working.

I cannot find anything more on the forums.

I am on my local server using Xampp, could this be the issue.

If this does not resolve, can you please point me in the direction of step by step instructions to copy the database and re-install.

Did you try changing the password and unblocking the admin user as described near the bottom of the page here:

So I’m a total nubie here. I just downloaded modx today and started playing and getting excited that this might finally be the CMS my customers have been looking for!!! And in my total zeal - while trying to create a new user with administration permissions, I screwed my permissions up. I’ve been going through my sql files, but I’m not exactly sure what I’ve done wrong. I’ve re-set my password, and I’m not blocked - So obviously what I’ve done is give myself user status and not admin status - but I’m not sure how to fix this.

In SQL my modex_users table has the class_key set to "modUser".. is this correct??

Thanks for any help you can give me... I feel like such a heel... :’(

SOLVED - For anyone facing the same problem - I made a second installation on my local host and then went through the SQL user tables to see what was different. I had changed the SuperUser’s authority to another number when it should have been "0". Works spiffy now.

Ok my turn!

I’ve managed to block myself out of my Revolution Manager version 2.0.4 - I had changed the session_cookie_secure to Yes and then flushed the permissions and then got locked out!

Checked database and changed the session_cookie_secure back to 0 and checked for blockeduntil, blockedafter etc as per Bob’s guide but I’m still unable to log in HELP......

Ok I have successfully managed to re log in after a lot of searching around.

I found in the Core -> Cache the config.cache.php which still showed the session_cookie_secure as ’1’. I changed this back to ’0’.

I then downloaded a copy of the error log from the Core -> Logs took a copy and then cleared it. Reloaded and then used the ’forgotten password’ option on the Manager Login panel and hooray was reset and able to login.

Phew, really didn’t want to have to do a fresh install for this site......
