I am try to see if it is possible to use a symlink which links to a resource in another context. Is this possible to do?

Theoretically it is definitely possible, though there may be caveats. Have you tried it?

I have set up a local modx rev with several sub domain contexts, and was finding that when symlinking across to another context I was getting a 404 error. In side the same context it all works.

I was hoping that this would work, as it would mean that I can grant access to a resource context that could then be shared across the other sub-domains automatically.

After reviewing the sendForward code that is used for Symlinks, it appears that it cannot handle Resources in external Contexts at the moment. I have entered http://bugs.modx.com/browse/MODX-2316 to track this issue.

There is another way to do this at the moment though, by adding Resources to multiple Contexts. I will put together an example and explain this in more detail as soon as possible so you have another approach to use in the meantime. I’ve used this technique to have a Context of common Resources that appear in multiple domains/sub-domains.

That would be very useful and thank you for placing this as a bug. I would be very interested in the approach that you used for a context for multiple domain.

I have been looking at creating a snippet that would bring in the resource by filtering via the context field.

              Hello Jason,
I’m also trying to accomplish this very thing at the moment and would love to get the details of your solution when you have time. Thank you.

                Hi,

Sorry for the bump but is there any progress on the adding resources to multiple contexts?

I have a news resource container which I want to be shared amongst multiple contexts to save duplication

As above, really need this. Is there a workaround until it’s fixed?

Is there an ETA at all when this will be fixed?
