I was going over some old bookmarks and I found one that marked the exact moment that I first heard about MODx. I learned of MODx’s existence while reading a blog post in Site Point with the title: I’ve Never Met a Boxed CMS I Like. At that time I had tried a few CMS but did not like any of them, and had actually given up on finding the right CMS. I was the 9th comment and there had already been 3 comments that mentioned MODx that caught my attention and here I am. I was skeptical at first, the post was Sept 2006 and I only registered in the forum on May 2007, but MODx delivered what it promised (and continues to do so).

Ironically the blog author was talking about a .net CMS so it was luck that MODx was even mentioned..or was it?  tongue

So how did you make your way over to MODx?

Well, i was only beginning to learn php and needed to put a website quickly.

I first tried Joomla and Spip. I stayed with Joomla for a personal project and went into several problem and was not satisfied about the fact that all Joomla websites looked alike.

I had a professional website totally programmed from the ground and don’t wanted to give him a joomla look.
But in the mean time, i needed a real backend and solid user system.

On a french forum, i read a lot of people comments and love the description of MODx given by davidm.

I tried it and it was flexible enough for my taste. Even though i did not learn all the features right away.
MODx gave me a good user system and contact form, but i used Ditto/Jot nearly 2 years later.

Well, i’m totally in love it now smiley

I had tested tons of cms applications, in that time I found etomite and really loved it but lost the link!! Than after a few years I suddenly found MODx, don’t know anymore where it was, but I saw it was etomite and found out it was even better.
          with regards,

In the beginning I used PostNuke, and then I moved over to Joomla. But after using Joomla for a while and being frustrated over the lack of flexibility, I decided to find another system. I had seen modx a year earlier, but it was immediately after an experiment with Typo3, and I thought it looked equally difficult. But then I tried modx again, and have not searched any more since. Found it via opensourcecms.com.
I think, thererfor I am! But what I am, and why...?

I started off using phpNuke setups and quickly realised it wasn’t the best or safest option... however I will give it credit for being what made me follow a route to being a web dev. After several months trying to figure out the themes, creating my own and then realising that I couldn’t do what I wanted very easily, I begun my search for creating my own.

I found a nice site called roscript which had some nice tuts on how to begin php and creating login systems... It opened my eye up to other CMS out there. I had a look at Drupal and Joomla and again realised that hacking things to how I want was a long process and was beginning to think that I would never find a CMS that suited me.

I spent about 3 weeks researching what I really wanted to do and for future ideas, which brought me to MODx’s site. I checked out the site, seen that the community was very active and the software was easy installed. 18 months or so on, I’m still here. I refuse to work with anything else other than MODx as I know it’s able to achieve what other CMS fail too. I have forced myself to work harder, ask for help when needed and now I’m able to help out others.

I’m very new to MODx (think I found it about 3 or 4 weeks ago) and I’ve never been keen on CMS’. I’ve always put plans into developing my own CMS but never really had the time ... other CMS’ I’d tried (mambo/joomla, droopal etc.) just hadn’t lived up to my expectations and I always felt that they were ridiculously bloated, required a lot of time developing templates, and required much more processing power by the server than necessary. I came across MODx when having a final sweep through open source CMS’ to make sure I wasn’t missing out on something special before I began writing a simple CMS for a client site and within half an hour I’d come to the conclusion that if I would have created my own ideal CMS it would probably have been very similar to MODx. I was sold.

Within two hours I’d converted my own site from a simple db driven site to a MODx driven site and am currently working on moving a large website which includes interaction with MSSQL databases and other live feeds. It’s completely changed my way of web development and changed my mind about CMS’.

              Awesome product, well done.

I was trying to find a simplest solution to a web management for our organization, to swept the previous joomla installation.
It was a pain to explain the back-end management to a non-techy web editors.
I was indeed a seasonal hard-coder person, for my own website.
Zend studio was my best friend.
Now, i mostly only need notepad++ to whole website, and use eclipse once or twice just for a code digging or deep hacking.  tongue

I used to make static webpages and was looking into learning PHP, when I got to take over a disastrous webpage
made with joomla. Before this joomla I thought of Dreamweaver as _limiting_ ... Well, the client needed to edit content
easily and sure this was pretty easy. I bought a joomla book and was some fascinated.

But as a designer and with a wish to be all _special_ I couldn’t take it. Remembering back to the days with freedom
and 100% control. In a google search I saw the name ---=[ MODx ]=--- Checked it out... and now today I remember
the old days being no-can’t-do and loneliness. tongue Thank YOU MODx for givin me super powers!

MODx separates control logic, from presentation logic. And it’s Priceless. cool

I could say that I have always been with MODx. First I found Etomite back in 2004 I think. I was developing an e-participation service and wouldn’t want to start the project from zero. Back then my other candidates were Mambo and custom solution with Smarty. But when I learned Etomite could swallow pure php code I immediately picked it for the project.

Then I remember when MODx split form Etomite and I thought is this the end of the great software project. Well, luckily I joined to the MODx project early on and followed it to grow fast. Never been a very active member but still followed MODx closely all the time. And now nearly all my work involves MODx in a way or other.

Wikipedia - they have an open source CMS section.

My fallback position has changed from "I don’t know if I can do that" to "I can figure it out". It has changed everything for me. I was at a www.refreshcentralarkansas.org meeting last night trying to convert the masses.
