    Hallo all,

I’m new to Modx. I have multilingual website, the data is stored in the different fields in the same table. I catch the cookies, and send the information in the table depend on the language the user choose.

    Example of Product table:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    | Product_Id | Product_Desc_en | Product_Desc_de | Product_Desc_it |
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    | 1 | Some English desc | Some German desc | Some Italian desc |
    | 2 | .....

I need some help from you all ... smiley

*) How is the content is stored in Modx ? Which table is used ?
*) Can I use these old data above in Modx without insert / type it again ?
If yes, how to do that ?
*) If I must convert it to Modx table structure, how to do that ?

Any tips will very nice ... I hope it .. smiley

    Best Regards,

The main page properties including the content are stored in the {modx_prefix}site_content table. There is no in-built multilingual support in modx but there are several ways to achieve a muli-lingual site. Have a look around in the [ur=http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/board,17.0.htmll]internationalisation board[/url]

It might be possible to keep your product data in it’s existing table structure if you use/build a snippet to display the product data. You might even be able to incorporate some of your old scripts into the snippet to detect the language and grab the right content column.

It’s a different story with other (normal) document content. You would have to import that into modx documents and find a method to make it multi-lingual aware. As I said browse through the internationalisation board or have a look at the wiki perhaps.

You’ll need to get your head around snippets, tvs and chunks, which are very powerful but you need to give yourself some time.
      Good luck

        Hi Tobyl,

Many ... many thanks for your information ... Nice, now I believe what my friend said, Modx Forum is the BEST .... smiley
Very quick reply, friendly, active & helpful ... smiley Modx is very powerful he said, we just need to learn it first .... we need a little time and effort to understand it, but afterthat WE CAN DO ANYTHING (we can do in Modx what Joomla & other CMS can not do ??) .... smiley

I have read about this tutorial & will give it a try (sound very nice tutorial about multi lingual) :
        http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,29597.0.html

Your information about ’ready to use’ snippets is also nice :
        http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Category:Snippets

But if I want to make my own snippet, where should I begin ? Is there tutorial or similar for it ?

        Thanks.
        Best Regards,

              You’re welcome smiley

After reading all that stuff in the wiki and the tutorials don’t forget to look at http://sottwell.com/modx-from-the-inside.html. She’s got some nice articles on modx that clarify how the whole system works.

And just open up some of the existing snippets and read through their code. It’ll give you an idea how snippets interact with the modx object.
