i am trying to change the settings so system emails get sent via SMTP. for instance, "Forgot your password?" on the login screen.
i have been editing eForm with SMTP parameters and then testing by trying to have the login screen email me my password. it does not seem to be working. it says it is sent, but i never receive anything.
is eform.inc.php the place i should be adding SMTP parameters for system messages or some other file?
thanks!
thanks.
i have seen all the other posts on editing the eForm file. i already had made the changes in 4 spots on that document, but it does not matter what mail account i try it wont work. i have tried my gmail and my host’s email.
it just seems like i am missing something and there is another document that handles the system messages like "forgot password" and others.
any suggestions are welcome, because no email working here.
Regarding weblogin snippet you can change it like this patch
http://setpro.net.pl/software/modx-stuff
(I would ONLY copy the lines regarding smtp)
eForm is not involved in any way.
//I missed the title and just answered the question I found...
thanks again. i am still having trouble.
it seems like most hosts require you use smtp send methods for forms and modx should therefore have an easier way to get smtp to work.
it is so frustrating. i love modx, but i have never been able to get the system messages or eform to work since all my hosts require smtp.
if i can get the system messages working first, i will move onto eform.
i looked at the link to setpro.net.pl but am not sure if i am supposed to add the $Host, $Port, $Username, & $Password to both the Weblogin Snippets or to class.phpmailer.php.
i have so many versions of these includes now i am going crazy. the biggest problem is that i am a designer and this code is freaking me out.
backup/rename your old:
weblogin.common.inc.php
weblogin.processor.inc.php
// ---> Assets/Snippets/Weblogin folder
and use these ones:
http://setpro.net.pl/download.php?item=weblogin-1.0_0.9.6.3.zip
right. i did that. but where do i specify/add smtp host, username, password and other parameters? these parameters are required.
Sorry!
When you open the class.phpmailer.php file in an editor, then you will see that the class definition begins with a series of interface variables. One of these variables, $Mailer, allows you to define the method of sending emails: mail (PHP function), sendmail (sendmail, qmail, or other compatible program), smtp (SMTP protocol with user authentication). In the last case, you also need to provide (through subsequent variables) an SMTP username and password.
You find the file in
manager/includes/controls
//
http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/releases/1.0.2/manager/includes/controls/class.phpmailer.php
change to
and then change the other ones under
hi i tried all that with no luck. i am thinking the weblogin snippets are the wrong ones to fix. does it make a difference if i am using modx 1.0.2?
poking around it seems like the plugin Manager and Admin > Forgot Manager Login (1) - 1.1 Resets your manager login when you forget your password via email confirmation is the one that needs smtp info added.
does anyone know how to do that or am i poking in the wrong areas?
For the manager I assume:
/manager/processors/save_user.processor.php
/manager/processors/save_web_user.processor.php
http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,25043.msg154684.html#msg154684
Then when you had already set manager/includes/controls/class.phpmailer.php
You would have to make them use it...
http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,19669.0.html
But talk to your host about the issue...
Please share what MODx version and server specs: Apache or IIS? Version of PHP and MySQL...
+ What your host requirements are regarding PHPmailer.
