Hi all, a question for you tongue

In my site, I have 5 macro-sections. I want them to be pages in the manager for tree organization, but I want them to be not reachable in the site.

BUT I want them to be displayed in breadcrumbs and wayfinder, but they don’t have to be clickable.
Plus, if I type the address of the page manually in the address bar, I also don’t want them to be displayed. In fact, I don’t want these pages to exits in the site laugh

    They are just for "structure".

Hope that someone will help me with a clear solution for this tongue

    Cheers,

    Roberto

      Hi Roberto,

I have never used breadcrumbs but with Wayfinder you can remove the <a><a/> tags from the tpl chunks so that these pages are not clickable. You will have to differentiate the rowTpl that these pages use so that the rest of your documents are still clickable..there are different ways to do this, e.g. by using &categoryFoldersTpl

Plus, if I type the address of the page manually in the address bar, I also don’t want them to be displayed. In fact, I don’t want these pages to exits in the site laugh

I think there are several ways to do this, one of them being you can use a snippet to redirect the web user to another page in your site if they try to access those 5 pages. For instance, if you want them to be redirected to their first child documents, you can use the snippet FirstChildRedirect.

Like I said, there could be other ways of doing this. Are those 5 documents containers?

      cheers/k

You can put [[FirstChildRedirect]] in the content of those pages. If anyone went to the pages, they would just be redirected to the first child.

@kongondo: BreadCrumbs has got templates similar to wayfinder, so it’s easy to remove the <a></a> tag there.

@rfoster & kongondo: I don’t want these pages to redirect to some other. In fact, these pages must act like if they were unpublished, but I want them to show they’re names in Wayfinder and BreadCrumbs, but not to be clickable.

Plus, if someone enter the address of these pages in the url bar, he should be redirected to the error page.

Hope to not be boring laugh

          Cheers,

          Roberto

I forgot: kongondo, yes they are 5 containers tongue (and I am using Evolution)

In that case, I would make a snippet called Give404 and call the modx->sendErrorPage() function in the API

We changed our site’s structure so this is no longer important to be solved tongue but let’s try the same...

With Wayfinder it’s easy to achieve that; the problems come with BreadCrumbs.

Yesterday I was trying to build breadcrumbs with wayfinder; maybe that’s a possible solution. But I couldn’t manage how to do it tongue

the "breadcrumbs with wayfinder" thing on the wiki isn’t working; or at least I couldn’t make it works tongue

              Cheers,

              Roberto

                Roberto,

Show us the code you used for it (WF and tpl chunks)

                cheers/k

                  First, I tried this

                  http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Breadcrumb_navigation_with_Wayfinder

just did a copy and paste.

It didn’t work, so I tried to build breadcrumbs on my own; but I didn’t get it, so I haven’t got things to post tongue

                  Cheers,

                  Roberto

                    Roberto,

"It didn’t work" is not very descriptive laugh. What did not work? Was the "menu" not generated at all? When you copied and pasted, did you check that the code was correctly copied? Did you create the necessary tpl chunks for WF? etc, etc wink

                    cheers/k
